Reverse lights

I'm going through my wiring while my engine is out so it's easy to access everything and noticed that my reverse lights do not come on. I ran down the wiring on a color coded chart and it shows purple wire to reverse lights. I checked and they are there. There is suppose to be a purple wire coming out of connector "H" and "F" at the firewall bulkhead that are supposed to lead to a Reverse light switch. I have no wires in connectors H or F and do not see a reverse light switch anyplace in the engine bay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1967 Dodge Coronet 440 with 383 and Torqueflite 727.

Also there is a common issue that aftermarkets don't work so check it after you install if you get a new one.

Did this Coronet originally have an automatic or a manual transmission? Is it a column shift column still in the car?

From the factory a 1967 Coronet 440 with a factory 727 would have a column shifter. This puts the reverse light switch at the base of the steering column.

The 727 transmission only has the neutral safety switch on it in 1967.

A 1967 manual trans has the reverse light switch on the transmission, with the 2 wires coming out the bulkhead connector and running down to the trans.

reverse switch is on transmision since 69 for auto cars... earliers are on shifter ( column or floor, no matter )

I'm watching as on my 68 the actuator for the column switch is broken and I don't want to pay $189 for a nos.

Pretty sure you can take any body or year piece and just use the switch section to fit on your bracket since it seems the only diffeence is the bracket itself

Purists are gonna roast me here, but since my '68 GTX didn't have the wiring harness on it for
reverse lights (this is a 4 speed converted car), I simply hardwired in the switch on the A833.
Two wires, got reverse lights.

That is what I did; two spade terminals and a SPST switch under the dash. No drilling or cutting of wires. Still would like to fix it right someday.

Yeah, I guess I should actually wire it like Ma did someday...maybe even install the little under-dash
indicator light while I'm at it, too.
The way I've got it now, they're active all the time, key on or not.

I resurrected the thread. Didn't see a fix for this other than a nos $$$$$ piece.

R413, it was an original automatic column shift. Still original column. I am 54 and no longer a contortionist, am not able to get my body down there to see without pulling the full bench seat out. Yes, the only switch on transmission is the neutral safety switch. Once I get the front bench out of the car, I'll look for it.

On another note, along same lines, I laid on my back as best I could and could not see the turn signal/emergency flasher on or near fuse box. Any recommendations?

Ok, got the seat out and crawled up under there. Found the switch, 2 purple wires running from it, base of steering column on the top side. Now I have to do my spark chasing and check for continuity etc.

Next thing, tun signal flasher per FM "The turn signal flasher is a plug in type mounted to the right of the steering column, under the instrument panel" page 8-75. I looked under there and don't see anything. Do I need to remove something from the dash or the a/c ductwork to get find it/get to it? The issue with these is the left signal flashes fine, the right gets bright but does not flash.

Emergency flasher per FM "on the lower edge of the instrument panel just below the left side of the glovebox on Coronet and Charger models" page 8-76. Same issue as with flasher, I cannot see it. Do I need to remove something from the dash or the a/c ductwork to get find it/get to it? The issue here is no flash at all. Doesn't get bright/flash.
