I don't want to run them.

I'm looking at a pair of Weld Drag Lites for sale cheap on Craigslist because the rims have holes in them for rim screws.

So my question for you guys is, if I run the rims with holes in them but without the screws, will my slicks' beads mount up OK without any problems or leaks? I don't run tubes if that matters.

Probably I dumb question I know...

never really tried that, I'm not sure if they would leak or not... but logic dictates, if the bead seals good, it will be fine, the rubber on the beads should seal up the screw holes, as long as they aren't too low, in the edge of the rims... maybe, maybe not.. if the rims are already drilled, then I'd probably, just run the screws, but that's just me...

I would also think maybe you should run a file over the inside of the bead area of the rims, back side of the screw holes make sure they are smooth & no burs etc..

Only reasons I hesitate to run the screws is because I don't think my car needs it and because I've seen screws mess up the bead area before. I was also thinking of just doing a quick fill in the screw holes with JB Weld. Only reason I would do all this silly stuff is because I could pick a $400 pair of rims for less than $100 and they would be much lighter than my cop rims.

as long as the holes are only in the flat part of the wheel and dont go into the inside curve you will be fine.tires actually seal at the curve, not on the flat surface.

They'll be fine. If there are any questions about if you need the screws or not, Mark the wheels in one spot with a sharpie at a point that lines up with something like a
letter or dot and do a couple of launches. If the tire shifts position you need the screws. Good luck!

Mine dont leak at all. I used to use screws but with the Hoosier radial slicks I dont need to run tubes and I dont have to worry about ripping the valve stem with no tubes. So I dont use tubes or screws on my rear rims but they have holes in them from when I use to use screws. And no leaks at all. Ron

And if you do have to run screws, make sure they are are even on both sides...ie, they match up side to side.

Thanks everyone! Well, someone snagged a pair of 15X8 Weld Drag Lites for less than $100 off Craigslist before I could get 'em.
