Hi Folks,

Quick question from a newbie- Is there any way to verify the RM status if the VIN and Fender Tag are gone. I'm looking at a 69 roadrunner on ebay that was allegedly stolen back in the 80's. When recovered, the car was issued a new VIN from the Massachusetts State Police. Is complete VIN located anywhere on the vehicle?

thanks,

Mike

If it was me i would stay away from any car that has a new vin. Money spent on a car with the right vin and all tag and stampings in place is a better way to go. My 2 cents..

Answering your question - no.

If you buy or plan to buy I would never value it anything over what a base Satty would be.

On the body? No. however if the car was built early (pre Jan) the original driveline should have the full VIN on the block and transmission. You could then check the body numbers to the VIN on the engine to confirm the body and drivetrain go together. This would tell you if the car was a RR or not.

attempted to buy a rr clone.
his title vin did not match the cars' vin.
went to local dmv and pd. both said the paperwork would not go thru.
i did want that car, though. ran like a raped gorilla.

Some states will not even allow a person to register a car with a "replacement" or "salvage " ( does not pertain to you, but... ) title. Recently, there were some vehicles being sold "with slight water damage " that actually came out of New Orleans after the flood. I agree with the other members. RUN ! There are plenty of good reasonably priced Road Runners available.
