I agree with BuckNeccid post if you feel like cloning your car go for it as long as your not trying to sell it as a real Runner or GTX. I have a 72 Satellite that I was going to clone when I got it about 8 years ago but I'm having second thoughts now because the car is just starting to look better & better & as long as it has a 440 I don't mind that it's just a Satellite.

What code was V2 offered under in '69, was it under the 999 special? I couldn't find it in any charts.

V2, Hemi Orange, was always V2 as far as I know. It was released for Dodges only in early to mid March, just a little before the A12s came out. (the TSB is dated May but I've seen cars with March SPDs in V2)

K2, vitamin C orange, was a Plymouth only color in 69.

EV2 and EK2 were available on either Dodge's or Plymouths in 70.

I am glad my Plymouth is "only a Satellite" because I can build it my way....if it was a RR or GTX then I would be forced to rebuild it by the parts book & there is no fun in that. I called my Satellite ROGUE RUNNER years ago and that name stays with it. I will never sell my baby and I will die with it in my driveway.

I would rather build my satellite to suit me. same with my 67 chevelle malibu. I dont want an SS car but would love a RR or GTX. BUT i can do anything i want to a satellite and not feel ashamed about changing a rarer more vaulable car.

I am ok with it as long as you are upfront about it being a clone and don't try and pass it off as a "real" one or change the vin.

so whats the "etiquette" of cloning? I mean, how far does one need to go to call it a "clone"? One of the long term / "some day" goals for my Satellite would be to build a RR clone...but do you need to go all out and change the steering wheel, shifter (column to floor), etc? or is the exterior stuff (emblems, taking off some of the satellite trim) sufficient?

Would never try to pass it off as real RR either, I just like the "character" and cleaner look of the RR.

Build it, how you want it & damn the rest...LOL... There's nothing wrong with a Satellite with RR dressing, BB engine & a different hood, you don't need the RR emblems to be cool {although I've owned 13 RR's now, so I'm a little biased}, it's completely acceptable to most all car guys, but the overly **** purist's, A-Typical Vin & Fender tag readers, you will occasionally run into from time to time, that will make negative comments sometimes... Just don't worry about them types... Also allot of RR's, had bench seats & column shifters too, they were originally intended on being a striped down, low optioned pure Big Block muscle car, not an optioned out luxury muscle car, that was a cool GTX, that's an easy clone/tribute too, with allot more trim & bling... I guess it really depends on what year of Satty & what you choose to do, to your own car, how far you want to take the clone/tribute thing... Good luck what ever you choose to do... my $0.02 cents

i'd rather date a chick that looked like Cindy Crawford than the "real" one...less drama! That being said, I am quite happy with my purchase that was cloned prior to me buying her...It's all about what YOU want, and the condition of it, and what your plan is...Mine is a clone, it was never misrepresented to anyone...And if someone has a problem with it, they are free to keep their opinions to themselves and take a walk.

I have no problems with clones/tributes/whatever you want to call them as long as you don't try and pass it off as the real deal, especially if/when you sell it. Keep the original VIN and fender tag on the car and then build it as a 'runner or GTX the way you want. I would guess that there are more Hemicudas now than there were when they were new.

It seems people over here are up front about their cars - I see a lot of for sale ads for clones (Charger R/T mostly) and they're advertised for what they are.

As for me, I'm going to "dress up" my '68 base Satellite a bit. It will get a new color and a RR hood. The 318 will remain in the car though. it's getting a new carb and a slightly hotter cam, but that's essentially it. No Road Runner logos or bird decals - and the horn will stay stock...

I'm doing the above modifications for me - always liked the look of that scooped hood, and think it'll fit the car's general looks better than the stock hood... wouldn't dream of passing the Satty as a RR though - I even plan to put "318" engine callouts in the hood inserts... :tongue3:

If you are not trying to pass it off as a RR, why remove the Satellite stuff badge it as one?

Swapping /6's and 318s for a 383 or 440 was always cool. There were plenty of fast Satellites.
Rebadging a car was NEVER EVER cool. Ya run what you bought.

A Satellite is beautiful on it's own.
As the new owner of a real Road Runner, clones don’t bother me. But the word always has.
It just doesn’t seem accurate.
A clone takes DNA from a cow, puts it in an egg and you geta real cow. Right:icon_question:
The result is a cow in all respects and identical to the original.
But a “cloned” car will always have a VIN number that is part of the car and not correct.
That can never be changed. And the car will never be truly like an original.

It seems to me that “imitation” would be a better term.
And isn't imitation the most sincere from of flattery?
Imitation give the true sense that it is not real.
I don’t think the term will ever change because it doesn’t sound as cool as “clone”. And once people get something in the language it doesn't come out.
What are the chances?

I really don't get too bent out of shape no matter what they are called but I think Belvederes, Satellites and Sport Sats are really cool in their natural trim with perhaps a year appropriate bulge hood. But if you want to change them over to RR or GTX badging go ahead. They are what they are. Obviously I'm totally against misrepresenting in any form if selling to an unsuspecting or uninformed buyer.

Its your car do what you want, who cares what anyone else thinks if it makes you happy do it. But if I had a satellite I would build it the way I want n leave it a satellite. But that's me, do what you want

Well here's my imitation 68', I bought it because I love the 1970 color and the built 440 under the not stock lift off hood, and the lumpy idle of the cam.

My view is, as long as you don't try to pass it off as a legit RR or GTX, you're good. After all, what a RoadRunner or GTX, nothing more than a Satellite with a different set of options.
