hey
i got my car from the farm so to speak as the owner had acess to farm oil so thats what they put after redoing motor the rotella t4 15-40w. on my other dodge truck 2006 i use full syn. mobil 1 5-30w. and on other 67 440 i hadi used mobil1 20-50w. and i am thinking of taking the rotella out and just use mibil1 ..... i go 9000 miles on my truck oil but on my car a 67 coronet 6000 is about all i would go.
however would like to know opinions on both oils and usage practices ....... thanks ....beep beep.........

The Mobil 1 is good stuff but is it worth having to change it that often? Also, if your bearing clearances are not on the high side, why use the 50w? Thicker oil makes your engine work harder to pump it. Imo, the Rotella is also a good oil. Many years ago I started using diesel oil in all of my junk and so far so good. The oldest vehicle is a 95 Dakota, next is a 97 diesel pickup and then a 2000 Durango. In 1990, I first used XD-3 (Exxon Diesel 30w) in a 90 Dakota we had and it did fine and had just over 100k miles on it when the oldest decided she didn't like it anymore and totaled it out.

mobil 1 doesn't have enough zinc. I think it's only about 800ppm.

I use Rotella in all my old stuff. No issues.

How long does it take you to put 6k miles on a 67 Coronet?

my understanding is that 1000ppm of zinc is the minimum for flat tappet cams. rotella has around 1100ppm. to my knowledge all the modern oils are in the 700-800ppm range. there are other factors than just ppm. 30wt rotella has plenty of zinc and around $15 a gallon.

That's right and is the reason why I use it in my 15L cummins
