RPM Heads Port & Polish

I just picked up a new pair of RPM heads and 1.5 roller rockers for my 383. I have a 3:37 gear 2800 stall & RPM intake. My cam is just under 500.. I know that the heads are one of the most important things I can add to gain a few more HP's under the hood Any tips on Port and Polish like a guess at HP gain I chatted with a guy last night that claimed he could add 50hp and wanted 800 for port and polish .. I'm not feeling it .. seem like alot of HP and a lot of coin

Also any of you NorthWest Chicagoland Mopar Manic's that can recommed someone please let me know

Oh my goal is a street car that's low 13's maybe high 12's

for that 383 i'd just do a check on the heads for proper valve to guide clearance and correct any valve seat issues. you don't need a "professional port and polish".

The price is okay for working the heads, but you don't need anything but what lewtot184 said for the 383. For what it may be worth, the RPM heads can be ported to another 180 hp.

For a mild engine, the RPM heads are pretty good right out of the box. Heck, they are as good if not better than a set of max ported 906's with the same size valve and IMO they are better. I ran 10.60's with a set of 906's back in the early 80's....just saying as an example. How fast do you want to go? A stock head with a valve pocket job will run a good deal better vs a bone stock head without doing much else. The stock valve back cut leaves a lot on the table and I don't think any other manufacturer has a worse one.

Thanks. My goal is a low 13 or High 12 second that i can drive around town and not worry about breaking something if the mood hits me to jump on it

I'm assuming typo...3.73?

I agree with the others, as far as not having to do added work to the heads for a 383, and it could be a detriment to your low end. If you were building a 493, I would say it would be of more benefit.

Yes a typo it's a 3:73 gear.

I'm curious on engine rebuilds I almost always see a head port and polish listed. But hey, if it saves me money and I won't gain any HP by doing it then I'll pass

It isn't that there will not be a benifit. The questions is how much will it help your build (not much) verse the cost. If you where building a bigger motor it would be worth the extra cost and you would see hte benifit. If your build, the extra cost will gain you little so it isn't worth it.
