RPM too high at cruising speed

255/60/15 27" tall

Yeah, with those tires and cruising at 70 on the freeway, I'll bet you are turning 3500 rpm. I have 3.55's with 275/60/15 tires (28") on my RR and like to limit myself to 60 mph or so on the highway with it. I'm sure it's not doing any damage, but if I know I'll be on the freeway, I take one of my 3.23 cars. Just don't like running over 3k rpm's for an extended period of time.

Just a long shot but have you recently changed your converter? Do you know what its stall is?

That was going to be my question. Did you up the converter to higher performance and stall? If so? It's doing what it's supposed to be doing. Converter wants more RPM to fully lockup. Does RPM stabilize at higher speeds? Say 80 MPH? (Meaning appears more what you would expect?)

Hmm... interesting. It's a 2500 (Hughes). But will that really have any bearing once I'm in third gear and cruising along?

Mine SB with 3:55's and 15" (26.5) is running around 3300 at 70mph. Just swapped out my FM 50's for a quieter exhaust and not nearly as screaming (noise) as it was. FM 40's are louder than 50's. OD or lower gears if this is bugging ya.

It's not going to tach the same as a Toyota Camry.

The Pro Street challenger cruises pretty good with 4:56 gears and a 33in tire. Tachs pretty high but I just don't care as long as the temp isn't too high but that usually doesn't happen with the becool radiator and pusher fans.

These converters do not "lock up".Ther are ones that do but they are much more $$$$$$$$$
