Running in the trifecta

Hello all i have a bit of an issue i have a new 440 engine just been rebuilt i also have a 727 which is rebuilt and a 8 3/4 diff with a tru track just been rebuilt.Now my question is how do you run all 3 in as they all need different techniques to bed them in .The cam on the engine has been run in and now needs the rings bedded in which means putting load on the engine but of course the trans hasn't been run before so that needs to be run in gently as so does the diff so how do we do this ?

when i built an engine or trans or rear end i would drove like i stole it the rear end would make some noise for 1000 miles around corners or parking. trans bring up the rpm to 3500 hammer the gas and hold on and if it broke then i f-ed up run it and run it hard have fun that is what these cars should be.

I would just take the car for a nice gentle cruise for 100 miles or so. Make sure the transmission is shifting correctly, and no weird noises from the rearend. Just treat it as you would a brand new car.

right back in the 60 's when you left the parking lot you would burn the tires some then rost,em off the rims hens day 2 add on's the Crager rim's or what ever .drive nice ok grand ma

That's what I like about FBBO, it makes me think once in a while. Never thought about breaking in the transmission or diff before, so I googled it. To my amusement, AI was stumped, no answer. Sounds like what you do to set the rings will be just fine for the transmission.

I broke all mine in on the road. A couple hard pulls to 4000-4500, coast back down, do it again. Drive random rpms and mix it up. I have a TruTrac and I don't remember anything specific for break in. Straight gear oil without friction modifier. I had a fresh 727 as well, I just made sure it was shifting correctly before going by a few laps around the neighborhood, adjusting the throttle/kickdown cable.

I'd say #1 is making sure the transmission shift point adjustment is right (or at least close). Did you install the trans? If not, did your mechanic at least get it close? If the 1-2 is late or early you have some adjusting to do. That will kill a trans quick.

Trans needs no break-in. The engine will like acceration and then coast to seat the rings. But honestly if it ws honed nice the rings seat pretty much on start-up. If it's a new ring and pinion? Avoid any hard starts and full throttle for the ring and pinion for 100 miles or so. if it was just adding bearings and the Tru trac I wouldn't worry about the rear end

Seating in the rings involves a nice long hilly road. Up and down accelerating and deaccelerating. I like to change the break in oil and filter right after breaking in the cam. Check filter for particles. Then fill it again with break in oil and drive for 200 miles or more before another oil change or if the oil is starting to darken up.

The rear gears need to go through some heat cycles. Take it for a 15 to 30 min easy drive. Bring it back home and let it completely cool down. Three or four trips. Change the lube after 500 miles.

Just keep an eye on the transmission for leaks and fluid level and color change.

I was told to drive in figure 8s to break in the TruTrac.

Not an auto trans but both my new Passon A833 and Strange Dana 60 came with the instructions "no spirited driving before 500 miles". I basically cruised it for the first 500 miles then dumped all the fluids in everything and replaced them then promptly went out and left 150' of stripes down the road.

the sure grip additive needs to get in there. need to do figure eights in a parking lot to mix it up. the Mopar lube is not as good as the GM and Ford posi lube

i used the motorcraft / ford additive but i built my sure grip tight so i just drove normal and it took about 1000 miles for all noise to dissipate quite now
