Half of the Pier is in the Monterey Bay due to heavy surf. We took visitors there recently.

Santa Cruz pier collapses, sending 3 people into the ocean

The three individuals who fell into the water included a city parks and recreation project manager and two contractors.

I proposed to my wife on that pier. Thankfully for me I stopped above the beach and not out at the end (the bay) because I dropped the ring and it landed in the sand.
