Scotch whiskey: Do you imbibe?

I never acquired the taste for scotch. I prefer premium Tequilas. Through the years I learned that whiskeys were bad for me. With Tequila, I only get nicer. I'll bet there are more people in jail because of Jack Daniels than anything else. A good friend of mine was a Scotch-drinker, and liked his single-malts. Then he went to Scotland on vacation. He asked the Publican for a Scotch-and-water. The Publican responded, "Beggin ya pardon! But the only thing ya put in a Scotch, is another Scotch!" Apparently most Scotches there a single-malts. And the idea is that you mix it with another distinct single-malt to find a combination that pleases your palate. In America, most Scotches and Whiskeys are "Blended" from different sources. That gives them a more "homogenous" taste. It melds the "smokey", "fruity", "sweet", and other unique flavors that a single-malt may have

I've never much cared for any whisky because an early experience with some high school buddys involving a bottle of seagrams and a bottle of grape juice (and the aftermath) ruined me for life. However, for some time I've wondered if I could be cured by something of better quality. A couple days ago I was at the bar in St. Elmo in Indy and there were several bottles of old Glenfiddich on the shelf right in front of me. I tried the 21. It was so nice I tried it again. I do believe that after 43 years I am finally cured.

I'm not man enough to drink Scotch...LOL

Friday night. Decided to resurrect this topic!

A couple of shots of my collection as it stands tonight.

Latest additions today, are the re-created Shackleton Whisky's. These are the ones that were found a 100 hundred years later in Antarctica. The whisky originally shipped to Shackleton in 1907!

I have BOTH packages offered by Mackinlay, the distillery that made the original whisky. One box is cardboard and quite cool, but the collector piece is the bottle packed in a box with straw just like the 1907 whisky was ;)

If you like it..great...That's what is most important. I like collecting as much as trying them all...But some of these are investments.

Tucked away in the middle there is a 'Balvenie THIRTY'..I haven't even dared to open the box it is that rare. ;) You cannot buy that batch anymore.

My Duncan Taylors were bought a few years ago and at that time were 24 years old.

And @ RC..image you posted is broken mate..so did not see it..I can guess what it was like though :)

Got to love the Edradour. Old Pulteney is nice as well.

Not as many choices here on the store shelves but Glenlivet, Balvenie, Dalmore, Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Laphroaig, have all been on my bar. I only buy Single Malt Scotch for myself.

Scotch is the first liquor I ever got sick on. That was when I was about 16, and the smell makes me wanna puke till this day.

As a bartender- I have the world at my fingertips haha.
I usually take down 1/2 bottle of Patron at work...but for my scotch nights-it's johnnie black or balvenie single malt

I like Wild Turkey .It will warm you up and chill you out really good.

OK, gotta wake this thread up. Just got a bottle of Ardbeg TEN for my birthday today. It is WONDERFUL!

I agree, one of my mainstays is Ardberg 10...It is incredibly good value for a single malt. And I am always amazed at how well it presents even though it's only 10 years old.

That is why it is front and center in my photos up there! :)

Scots and Scotch Whisky....

I and my wife are both of Scots ancestry. My wife's grandmother came over and her Dad is a first gen in America. My family is from Clan Douglas origins. We, the Douglas's once owned more than half of Scotland's land. As for whiskey, oh yes, we know the auld blessed wee dram very well.

Just spent an evening with a couple of mates trying some new stuff. Opened my MacKinlay special edition too.
