I was at my friends house last week and his son had some friends over and they were talking about fixing cars. One of the girls that was there said that her mom wants to hire my friend, his son, and her boyfriend to start flipping cars. Her mom has gotten into these flipping shows and thinks that she can buy ANY $200 car and sell it for $10000. She has it in her mind that it only takes a few days and almost no money to do this :confused2:!

Lord help us all

Thomas

Reminds me of my dumb *** BIL...always into the quick money crap and scams...

My brother and I were flippers way back when. We did buy allot of cars for under $500. I think The biggest score went for $2200. On average we probly made $150-$350 a car after expenses. We always made "some" money. BTW this was 30 years ago!!!!

Yeah, someone hasn't been watching "Fast-N-Loud". they loose their shirt about every other car they decide to flip.

Please encourage them and tell them this is a brilliant scheme. Then sit back and watch the fun happen and let us know how it goes.

Like anything else it's easy if you know what you're doing.

Good luck... :iamwithstupid: Getting into that part of the car business, is very tough, especially if you aren't very knowledgeable or have all the proper tools, lift, paint booth, parts supplier & a jobber account etc. & especially if you don't do all the work yourself... In my personal experiences & IMHFO, Most all of the buyers/people shopping for these type of muscle or collector cars, all seam to tend to be "cheapskates & want a great deal on most everything" or they won't buy & usually won't pay, what something is actually worth, even if it's lowball value, even in just the value of the parts installed... Most of us build these cars for the love of the cars... Remember the parts are usually only worth about $0.50 cents on the dollar, when they leave the store after they are purchased & installed, most people/buyers don't give a rats a-- or respect anything about the time or money spent... It can be done, but you have to find the right buyer/s & be patient... But neither seems to be a virtue that I have, anymore... I did it allot, when I was much younger, when these cars were much more readily available & CHEAP, but I didn't really care for 90% of the people, that I had to deal with either thou... It also helps, to have a television production company helping you pay the bills too.... I's merely just entertainment or a hobby for most...

I think you read between the lines! especially on the 90% part!

And she has none of that. The girl thinks it's a bad idea but her mom is one of those "you just can't reason with" people. So I'm going to watch the fun happen and keep my mouth and wallet closed.

Our survey said.....99% of people thought this was a great idea :rofl::rofl:

yep & the proper tools & financial means too, plus have a plentiful/willing market to sell to, helps too

I have (with a friend BUT, not any more) used to do this buy low "patch up" and sell,
.... in my younger days.
younger? because when "they"(buyers) find out it is a POS they want to:eusa_pray:
KICK your a$$.
so you better know MMA. when it does not start the next day.

Buddy of mine use to do this, but he had his used car dealers license. would go to the auction, pick up two cars, wash and wax, clean the interior, fix a few minor things and put them on his front lawn for sale. Was making almost 1k a week. State changed the requirements for owning a used car dealer license since everyone was starting to do this and yanked his license.

Encourage them to get muscle cars...after a bit we will see a lot of half finished projects we can get cheap. Ppl like that kill me, they see something on tv and think they can do it.. remember the house flippers..
The only way it can be done is if you do everything. If you hire anything, you're going to lose your a$$. But, you can't tell most ppl that their get rich quick scheme is bound to fail.

One of the things these shows never account for is the overhead of the business expenses.

Dealer insurance and certificates aren't cheap around here.

If you are not a dealer, how do you test drive or drive at all without being illegal.

Simply paying the tax tag and title to get it in your name can be a significant portion of any "profit" on a given car, let alone the hassle of adding and then removing cars from your policy.

I know a few people like this woman. They spend all of their time and energy moving from one get rich scheme to the next instead of learning something useful and working hard to make themselves successful. Usually they take everything that they see in these TV reality shows as the gospel truth. The first million is just around the corner, right?

:iamwithstupid: my oldest sisters son is like that too... he wastes money on every get rich scheme he sees on TV, easily dooped, perfect target for late night TV scammers... he's a go getter, works hard, has a growing family & good job as a Vet Tech., but never seems to figure out that those easy money or get rich quick schemes, don't work 99.999999999999999999% of the time...
