Thanks guys

It has been a while since I did one but I recall not removing the valve body. I think I pulled the old seal out using a small pick and then pressed the new one back in with a large washer and socket. Not saying this is the correct way to do it.

There are two seals and you do not have to remove the trans to do it....

I just did this on my 69 RR 727 auto. I PULLED THE TRANNY PAN, and valve body. Then the seal can be removed by tapping upward on it with a punch or screwdriver. I am assuming the trans is still in the car. Then you get a flat washer a little bigger than the new seal, and a nut and bolt about 3 " long. Then put the new seal on top, with the washer, and bolt sticking down thru the hole. Then put another large washer or bar across the bottom, and stick the bolt thru that one. Put the nut and washer on, and gradually tighten the nut. This draws the new seal down into the trans body. Make sure it sits squarely on top before tightening the nut. I heard about this method, and was surprised how easy it was to do. First try. No more leaks now. Also a good idea to adjust the low/reverse band while its apart. Install a new filter, gasket, fluid, and your good to go. The kick down band can be adjusted with the pan installed. My tranny works great now, and no leaks! Good luck.

I read the picture article on replacing the seal with valve body installed. Great, if thats the only thing wrong. But if you want to also change the filter and pan gsk, plus adjust the low/reverse band, then the pan has to be removed. I never knew about a seal on the K/D shaft, but good to know it can leak there too. Will check that out next time I have one apart.

Ill be getting at this tonight guys, thanks a bunch. I have both seals, the KD, and the Shift seal. And i just did a service last season on thefilter and pan gasket, so ill attempt the wrong/easy way. Haha

Anyone know where you can get that seal tool? The links on the moparts page dont work

I did mine with the trans in the car. Just used a small screw driver and kinda punched it into the seal. It came right out. Used a deepwell socket and tapped it in. 10 minutes. Done

So what your saying is you managed to stab the edge of the seal on the metal part and pry it out? ive done that before on seals when i had room, wasnt sure if i would have room in this case to try that. Was going to make a tool out of a pipe nipple, and a pipe cap. Abd force thread it in between the seal and the shaft, and punch it upward on the cap with a screwdriver. Hummmm to mant options.
