I recently moved to Southern California from South Carolina. And due to a shortage in cash, I had to leave my Satellite behind.

With tax season quickly approaching, I should soon be able to afford to ship it out here.

Have any of you guys ever shipped a car 2000+ miles before? If so, who'd you use, and how did things work out? I'd like to keep it all below $1500. I've seen a few quotes and that seems reasonable. I've never had to deal with this before, so naturally I'd like a little advice. Let me know what you think!

It runs and drives, but is far from a show car. So I don't think the bottom of a trailer would hurt. And it would be right at 2500 miles.

Runs and drives....why not just drive it? I drove my 66 everywhere until I tore it apart for a revamp.

I had good luck using uship.com a few years ago. You post what you want moved, your timeline, locations to and from, and moving companies bid on your job. I had my motorcycle moved from SEA to SFO for $600, and it was in a covered trailer and arrived fine. It's a bit of work to sift though the bids and figure out who to go with, but you might want to check it out. Good luck!

HAHA. I'm afraid with the 440 it'd cost more to drive it than ship it CRANKY. I'd probably get 7 or so miles per gallon at 75 mph. Though it sure would be an adventure!

I researched shipping a car from Florida to Maryland last year and got prices from A-Z. You will pay more for a top notch enclosed carrier but most of the lower prices were from brokers who solicit bids from other trucking co. You will not know who your actual carrier will be until they contact you to make pickup arangements. Could be a semi and 7 car carrier or a guy w/ a pickup and dual axle trailer. Google search "Auto Transporter" and read the reviews for them, there are a lot more scary stories then good reviews. Good luck, hope you get your car back safely!

I was on a site earlier that I think has listing for auto transport amongst it's many links www.hotrodhotline.com , good luck...

I just had a 69 Chrysler 300 shipped from NJ to Alabama, (just under 1000 miles), 3 weeks ago and the cost was $650.00. It arrived on a two car ramp trailer only a day and a half from when it was picked up, and in good condition, no issues. The brokers got $150.00 and the carrier got the balance. I paid nothing until the car was assigned to a carrier, then the $150.00 fee to pick up and the balance upon delivery.

I went through a broker in Florida, "Fast auto movers". They were very professional and had great reviews on line. I would use them again.
There number is 754-204-3198 and the lady I delt with is Nichole.

The carrier was "Golden car transportation" in Totowa NJ. 973-930-8856. You might contact them directly but i'm not sure if they will travel to the west coast.

Good luck with the move.

Will.

Just had a car moved about six months ago. I used a broker that arranged for a transporter. The car was damaged in the move so I notified the broker that had arranged everything. The broker said I had to deal with the transporter, the transporter had inadaquate insurance and gave me the run around. If I had to to it again I would ask for a copy of the insurance policy for the transporter and find out in advance who is going to make things right if the car is damaged in transit.
Regards,

Ask for thier DOT #.Then you can go to the DOT.GOV for history of the carrier.Any commercial vehicle over 10001 lbs need a DOT number & MC {motor carrier} number. The cheapest bid is not always the cheapest.:icon_weed:

I Have had 4 vehicles shipped, one from up state new york to calif...I used DAS shipping...Dependable auto shippers...The cost for shipping depends alt on the price of fuel...You should be able to get it directly to your door for 800 to 1000 bucks...The toyota trekker i had shipped from up state new york cost me more than the truck...This was because it was not close to a mjor hub...

Hell, my drag car got that lol....well, maybe not. Is it modified? Find someone that needs a ride and split the gas. Could be fun. Been awhile since I've been on a road trip in an old car but it was nothing to get in them back in the day and just go. Is it in good shape? Up until 12 years ago, I drove my 66 Belvedere everywhere and the ac still worked even and it only let me down one time and that was an easy fix. I even used it to back and forth to work every day....that's how reliable it was.
