Hey guys,

Can anybody recommend a reasonable freight shipping company? A fellow FBBO member has some much needed parts for my resto but he is halfway across the country.

I was told by another forum to try uship.com and I can say my first experience with them is not impressing me. I had shipper lined up that was much more reasonable than the $1000 quotes I've been finding... but he decided to flake out at the last minute after me and the seller scramble to get the deal done... without so much as response.

I've also sent a quote request to fastenal... but after that I'm out of ideas.

If I have too, I'll bite my lip pay $750-$1000 for shipping, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Try Greyhound. They carry freight terminal to terminal for reasonable fees.

All freight companies will quote/bill full published rates to those that don't have negotiated discounts on file. they are required to by law. If you don't work for a company that has this or they don't make available to the employees; my best suggestion is to talk to your friends and see if one of their companies will let you ship and bill through them plus maybe 10-15% of the freight cost. Most large company's negotiated freight rates are something like 50%-10%-2.5% off published rates.

You can also check into UPS Freight or FedEx Freight.

Good luck.

I've used Craters & Freighters but not for auto parts. I shipped 14 data center computer cabinets ( 24"w x 40"d x 7'h )weighing about 4200 lbs in total from Phoenix to San Marcos. They came right to my site and put them all on pallets, wrapped them in cardboard sheeting, shrink wrap, strapped them to the pallets and hauled them away. Total cost was $2800 ... might be worth a call.

Great thread here. Nice place to consolidate ideas and experience. Naming names of companies that people have positive experience would be cool too.

I've shipped a lot of big stuff like complete 440 to Germany, C-body trunk pan to Norway, and crap all over the US.
Check with Gray Hound but is limited to 100" and insurance to 300.00. They lost a floor pan in a 60-30-12 box. LOST it.
UPS and FedEx Freight is pretty high.
The best is to find a trucking freight company that has terminals in both cities A and B. That's usually the best. Companies like RCYellow, Con-way, Navajo, ect.

x2 I got my rear seat the other day, I've had good luck with greyhound and their reliable. On u ship if a contractor looks at a low bid job say 600 to move your parts cross country, then moments before he commits to your haul, he gets a better offer to make more$ you get dropped. I've had good service from u ship on whole cars. I've heard horror stories too, but for parts I go greyhound.

I agree with 2059....if you have a company with negotiated rates and can ship dock to dock...it will save you a bundle. I was quoted by the freight company that serves our business something like $75 to ship two complete 8.75 differentials with gears and drums from NW Ohio to mid Pennsylvania.

Look up freightcenter.com. Shipped a hood from Az to Tx

What parts exactly do you need to ship?

I have found that ABF is a good carrier. Stay away from Yellow Freight; they damage everything.

supposedly Fastenal suppliers sell the extra space in their truck/trailer cheaper, like 1/2 price of Fed Ex, UPS, USPS, or regular truck freight, point to point etc..... I haven't tried them yet thou, Hemi-It-Is is whom turned me on to them, if you have a local Fastenal Supplier in your area, you can take a packaged/boxed/crated part there to them, you might want to check with them, we have one here even in a little town like Sonora Ca. even, your person on the other end would need to pick up the part at a local Fastenal subsidiary/affiliate in their area... not sure if they will do door to door stuff, but for big or heavy stuff it could be a great alternative, you would need to ask Hemi-It-Is for his own personal experiences thou, he got fenders or a hood or something "big" shipped, way cheaper than normal, freight costs or the typical carriers... Good luck

75% discount?

Wanna broker a shipment :icon_winkle:

Thank you for all the replies guys.

I've been going through the suggestions. I'd love to say my options are expanding... but the quotes are going from bad to worse. Freight Center quoted me $790 for UPS freight and that is the cheapest so far... provided that both myself and the seller can manhandle the parts on the the truck at both ends.

I'm going to have to wait until Monday to call the local Fastenal...

I had 2 fenders woth a grille & headlight bezels come from Tyler Texas to Mineola ny {long Island} for $125.00!!

HEMI-ITIS wins!

He only shipped 200lbs..maybe.. CHASE383 has maybe 10x that weight. He's probably gonna be paying some $$$ to ship all that. That's what kills alot of deals. Damned shipping costs

:protest: Dude! i shipped one coronet fender on graydog from atlanta to newcastel pa. and it cost me $135.00. who did you ship with?
