I know I saw a thread on here with pics of how somebody did the conversion on a 65 Coronet. Anybody got an idiots guide(for me LOL) with measurements etc. on how to do this. I have a sacrificial grill and good headlight bezels and I want to do this to my Coronet. Any info would be much appreciated.
cheers
Steve

You mean for the super stock look? Well, you have to hack both the bezels and the grill. Basically you cut the bezel in half (so there's only the outer hole) and then hack both ends off the other grill, mash it a bit, and fill the gap

Steve, i think you mean my thread. I thought I could do this myself too but there's more to it then just cutting and grinding. If you want some pics, please let me know and I will send them to you.

yes I would

Yes, I understood from your thread that it is a little more complicated than it looks. I was hoping to get some finished dimensions ei where to cut headlight doors, how much grill to cut, I think I counted 11 teeth on your thread? I realize that you have to bend and shape the new piece and that it is the hardest to get the shape. But I really want to do this to the car. Any help or guidance with pics and measurements would be greatly appreciated. I have never seen a 65 Coronet in British Columbia let alone a A990 car with the superstock grille treatement.
cheers
Steve

Yes, there are 11 teeth in the extra part. Yes you have to bend the new part so it will fit on both ends. It's a puzzling job. Here's a link to my Photobucket Album where you can find some pictures of the gril-job:

Good luck! And euhm...please post some pics too! Remember, be patient and overthink every step you take carefully. You don't want to spoil some nice (expensive) headlight bezels for nothing...

That's a great look, I plan on doing the same to my '64. There were some real hack jobs done in the day but I recommend getting someone to tig it and do some proper finishing and polish so it looks like it's always been like that. Looks like you have some good examples to work with now.

Brining this thread back to life. Hope you don't mind.

Question, what method did you use to get the nice bend on your "11 tooth" insert peice? Looks really nice and straight,,,,,,,,,Thanks

I had Special T's do my grill for my 64 Savoy....and then refinish. I think the total bill came to $2100.00. To me that is just stupid money, but then the initial estimate was $1200. Beware of this when you get a quote because once they have your grills....you are at their mercy basically. That being said, he did a great job.... Spook.

I know the '64 grill is way different than the '65 but I did all of the cutting and measuring myself then had a local fab shop weld it up. I could have spent another two days sanding and polishing it to make it look mint but that wasn't the level of this build. I'm super happy with the end result and once you get over the fact that you have to destroy two mint grills it's easy.

So as long as we are showing off...

Here's mine, I copied the original 64 Ramchargers and also looked to see how Moshers did it, enjoy....and no drooling on the keyboard, lol!!
