Was going to use two stage paint now going to use single stage , question is what to use , they had three types, acrylic enamel , acrylic urethane , urethane , what is best one ?

I used Urethane on my fenders and they laid down nice and polished out really nice.. (for me, i'm a hack though) In the past i did enamel and honestly preferred it (might just be that i was more used to it).. Urethanes are REALLY bad for the lungs so if you go that route make sure you get a good respirator (they recommend the space suit type with fresh air supply)

I got my paint from Vintage paint and it matched my 62s original paint perfect (no idea what brand the paint is since it's a custom mix) BUT.. i have seen Scott on cold war motors do Nason single stage that looked so good it's mind boggling (on a lecar of all things)

Urethane is great, stands up to the elements and UV rays. Not acrylic.

I used Nason acrylic enamel on my 68, only downfall is that you have to be careful buffing if paint has any metallic. You can mess it up very easy. Nason does not recommend a clear over their acrylic enamel.

Urethane. I like single stage over base clear. The last stuff I used was U-Tech made by AkzoNobel and I really liked it.

A few times with acrylic urethane single stage. Haven’t had any durability problems so far. If you want the paint to shine , it WILL shine.

I just did the Machine in U-Tech ss...........love it....... nice stuff, and user friendly

metallic colors require a clean, even application...... it's a bit of a lost art, as you can't really "work" it after the fact

I plan on single stage urethane on 68 coronet and 98 ram in the future. Ive had it with peeling clear coat.

I sprayed a lot of Centari in the 80s....... every color; silvers, golds, ect...... it's been a long time. My room offers up extremely clean jobs; I'm pretty sure I'll use SS for my GG1 GTX, just because

Love it, wish i still had mine :)
Me too. My Red 62 was featured in Hot Rod in early 1970's.
Article was called = "Anatomy of a Bracket Racer".
Kenny Youngblood did a Cutaway Illustration of the 62 for the Hot Rod Article.
Those were sure fun times!
I wish I had not lost the Magazine.

I wish i could go racing... tracks are too far to me to drive to then race (well.. 60-90 mins from 3 tracks) but i'm too paranoid bout breaking **** and getting home :)

Any catalyzed paint is bad for you, isocyantes. Goes right through any respirator, that's why a fresh air suit is recommended.

We even use urethene car paint on engines. Stand up to everything. I have engines painted over 20 years ago that look better than new. Obiviously use it on car bodies as well. tis engine painted in 2003. Car the same year.

a thin film of epoxy primer and ss urethane with stick to an engine for ever....... I'd use any of the main brands without worry

A full face mask is essential. While good air flow, shootsuit and standard respirator will get most of it, the overspray blow back will get in the eyes and absorb faster than filtered fumes the lungs. Most people can't make the commitment to a fresh air supply for 1 or 2 bits of painting.
I've been painting for years, and my bloodwork is perfect. I check so I won't be an invalid later. I've seen old bodymen.
I quit shop jobs where techs were cutting in parts in the general shop area, and you didn't know till later when you felt it.
