This may be a shot in the dark but does anyone on here know of any fitment/clearance issues with the Hooker Super Comp headers (specifically model 5602) on a 63 B-Body? All sites say they'll fit but would like to hear if any of you have had any experience with them, or could recommend a set of headers that are comparable.

Already have the "Super Six" upgrade done, but would like to grab a few extra lb's of torque, along with a nice rumble.

Thanks,
Jeff

Anyone? I know slants aren't too popular but figured someone would have come across this before. I know starter location has a bit to do with wether or not they will fit.

Never had any problems with Hooker headers fitting anything but never used them on a 6 but have seen several 6's with headers but what kind they had is unknown but don't recall the starter being an issue. You could use a mini starter from a newer V8 too....

Thanks for the responses guys...I've actually been an active member on the Slant Six forum for quite a while. This question was posted but there wasn't a response, nor is there clear direction if the starter location on the B body will be an issue....I know Hooker's info says they will not fit early A bodies, so I guess we'll see.

Thanks again.

There are two different starters that came on these old cars. I don't remember the horse power rating they had but one is a standard hp and the heavy duty one which was more powerful. The heavy duty starter has a longer motor and iirc, it's like 5/8" longer. Now that one would not fit my 71 small block Cuda with the Hooker Super Comp headers but they fit fine with the smaller starter and with the new style mini starter, there was even more room. Also, the newer style starters are WAY better than the old ones ever were. Other than that, you shouldn't have any clearance issues with it....

Good deal, thank you very much. I really wish I got e-mail updates when posts are made on my threads.

Being that it's a slant 6, I doubt the heavy duty starter is installed since a Honda Civic has more ponies than my car puts out...none the less, I will check it out and even check into a new "mini" starter. The starter I have is pretty small, so I may not have an issue..I'll just have to check the Super Comp's runner lengths and get it all squared away.

Thanks again.

The new generation of starters have been available for many years now...I think they started showing up in the mid 80's? My 87 V6 Dakota had one. Anyways, I get email notification on threads but sometimes it takes a few days for the email to show up lol

I have it checked to send me notifications when replies are posted...oh well, guess I just need to come on here more often.

Basically any auto parts store should have the newer style starters I would imagine right? I need new plugs and wires, fuel filter, etc.. as well once spring time comes around and I get my interior back in the car....one thing at a time.
