From time to time I find snakes like this one in my pool here in SC. They are usually small like this one. There are copperheads in the woods at the back of my property. I'm curious to know what kind of snake this is:

Looks like a baby black racer.

My grandson went out in the woods looking for snakes and he turned over a large rock. He called me over to check it out. I looked at the snake he was inquiring about (5 snakes under there)

, picked it up and handed the Scarlet Kingsnake to him.

Looks like a common watersnake
1. Can be aggressive and bite (non venomous)
2. Usually, when wet have a reddish / brown color with markings
3. For their size, fearless

We have the Mojave Greens here in the Mojave desert AND the Sidewinder's
(The Mojave Green rattler is excessively aggressive)

Although it's hard to tell from the picture, it looks like a checkered garter snake. Harmless and very common.
Here's a picture of one. The second picture is a slightly larger snake I found in South Florida.

Its obviously a Pool snake. If the op ever comes back, maybe he can google baby black racer snake and see if that is what it looks like.
