I had a plug wired into my AM/8track so I can just plug in my IPOD. The only problem is the pipes are too loud to listen to it unless I have it full volume.
Few years back I hid an EQ/preamp in the glove box and wired it to an amp in the trunk. 6” woofers/mids on the back deck and 3.5” (or 4”, can’t remember) in the kick panels. The amp has enough headroom to add a sub later, but the 451 & 3” exhaust provides plenty of thump.
Stereo is only good when engine is off. No one has been able to explain why. All known proper equipment has been installed. But no problem could not hear it over the exhaust anyway.
Some have their preference to keep things in the dash looking totally original, somewhat, or no issue. I went the middle route being able to go back to original if that would be a later choice. I chose a Hermosa retro and modified an extra radio plate I had to fit and made up an aluminum insert to get the appearance (in the photo). It also was shaft-mount I needed to avoid more rigging. The radio has a lot of features I didn't need or use but wanted the flash drive feature for tunes not needing CD's and a power antenna connection so I could add that. I put two speakers in the rear panels again reversible by keeping the inserts I cut out and new upholstery that is easy to do on those panels. My car is a drop top and 3" exhaust/headers so yeah the volume has to be cranked some when cruising but dyno-matting helped a bit.
I worked at a auto audio store in college and have had several systems, but that was in my 90 Dodge Daytona, 99 Dodge Avenger, and my 01 PT Cruiser. Had many and loved them! Won a few competitions. Have 3 surround systems in my house now, but just don’t know about putting one in the R/T. Would take some work and I could do it right, but think it might detract from it. I kinda enjoy just cruising and listening to the roar of the engine. Maybe one day.
