This might sound crazy but i want to put the " simulated scoop" of the 73-74 RR on my 73 Swinger. I can not locate an aftermarket source for one, probably because it's actually a hood, but since my dad brought a 73 home in 73 and to this day I have loved that hood. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

That is a very cool hood indeed. I do not know of a source that would have a pre-made hood like that.

I have seen 71 -74 Chargers with a Challenger twin hood scoop hood skin grafted onto it. I also saw a Charger hood with a 73-74 Road Runner buldge grafted on it. So, anything is possible.

I'd look for a pair of donor hoods ... one for Swinger and one of the RR. Try to find damaged hoods in order to use only the parts that you need and save the "good" hoods for a restoration, if possible. Besides, your purchase price will be lower if you buy damaged or rusted hoods anyway.

I know it can be done ..... just have to find someone with the skills to pull it off.

Good luck and Godspeed,
JON

I love that hood, too.

I have thought about trying to make a 74 Charger hood with that bump.

I would also kill to have that on my 2000 Dakota. I think the lines are perfect for it.

Good luck.

Anyone have the hood? I can use the atual dimensions and try my hand at making one! I have 2 hoods for the dart and completion of that project isn't even lose, just got the 440 for it so i am aways off, so i guess it will give me the time to work on the fab of my hood!

Maybe you could find one and make a fiberglass mold of it. If you read a few books about fiberglass work, I really dont think it would be that hard. I also consider it the best looking NON-FUNCTIONAL hood out there! Shame there was never a functioning ducting kit made for it.

I am heading to a local classics boneyard in the morning. They say they have a hood that's damaged so we'll see! If they don't, well any day is a good day in a boneyard!

I plan on making a mold with the hood, not very good with 'glass but the hood has to happen for the finish!

This is a possable graft my brother did this graft on a 72 charger had to cut the buldge and add about a 8 or 10 inch piece in the middle so it fit the hood size on a dart this graft would look and fit good i wouldnt use glass lay it out mark it cut it spot it in then keep spotting it till its welded then grind it primer it glaze it then it will look stock and it does look good

Funtional r/r hood

you could cut the scoops and use 2x5 plastic tubes and make these funcioning ramair then make glass mold from it make it from glass right to the air cleaner useing screens and rubber door or trunk seals for edge of air cleaner even on six pack use cap tape between duct and hood gives decient seal

I Like the idea of using metal and grafting an existing Bulge onto the Dart. When you mentionusing 2X5 plastic tubes, I am picturing building a channel for the air to pass down to the carb, is that correct? Also, then what setup should I consider for the Air cleaner that would allow this to function properly?

I am getting really jazzed about this part! I am currently working on the engine &engine bay on the Dart and the vision is coming together nicely.

Oh yeah, why not use "glass like my original thought?

Somebody should make just the scoops for these hoods. Flat hoods are easy to come by and would pretty cheap to just add the bulge or scoops to a flat hood for the non-purist . I looked for somebody that made them before I bought my bulge hood for my 73 Roadrunner with no luck.

Yes the 2 by 5 chanel is for the ductwork as far as an aircleaner use one thats totally open on outside or cut holes or slots into outside of a factory one to allowe the air through the air cleaner not straight into carb my opinion but makeing it from glass is fine but there is buldge hoods out there like i said my brother payed $40 just for buldge in carlisle mopar nats

Road Runner insert

The hardest part would be that the Dart hood has acenter reinforcement the Road Runner doesn't have , but a good 'glass doctor could make it work . I used a 70 Coronet R/T scoop for my 73 Dart . It looks good and makes people wonder if it was built that way . DSCF0101_0243_243.jpg

Looks good yea the brace is there but cutting only part of it gives u a place to attach the duct work to

That does look I am still looking, boneyard was a bust! I found a company, Custom Hoods that makes a fiberglass Lift off hood for the 73-4 so I contacted them about purchasing just the bulge section. Who knows worse they can say is NO.
