Max Wedge owners, what spark plugs are you using. I was fortunate to just come up with five boxes of original Champion J11Y plugs. I know originally the max wedge used J9Y plugs, but the 11's won't hurt and will actually be better for driving it to the occasional cruise night.

J 12 YC's work best but AC 73's and 74's work good too. Depends on your driving application - ie street, race etc.

We've got NGK's in ours and havent had any problems. Mostly used for driving to shows, with the occasional (ie once a year!) bit of strip action.

As I may have mentioned in introducing myself, I don't drive anymore because of very bad eyesight. I don't know what plugs are in there now, but my friend came over yesterday and we took the car out for a spin around the block. WOW! Incredible sound and even more incredible performance. I can only imagine what it is like with the exhaust cutouts opened!

check your jetting. primaries around 98 and secondaries 89 with a 7047 metering rod right rear secondary likes 86 jet.this is if you are running a original max wedge crossram intake.

A previous owner that raced Max Wedges in 62 and 63 rebuilt and set up the 3447 carbs. It is the original Max Wedge cross ram intake and the car runs great. I will ask him about the jetting. He has all the paperwork and specs from when he rebuilt them. He is going to give that to me. My days of racing are long over. I raced Chevelles in 66, 67 and 68. They were the same cars we drove on the street, but Sunoco 260 was only 32.9 per gallon. Today I just enjoy the cars from my youth and have become a true purist.

3447 carbs well tuned are great for the street.i ran them for years with great success.jetting is all relevant to the altitude where you live.
