Hello,

I have a 318 71 Charger, and am going to swap in a 440.

My car has the 22 inch small block radiator, and I know that the big block cars came with a 26 inch radiator.

I have found this Speedcooling 22 inch radiator that is meant for big blocks. It supposedly fits into a stock radiator core support and fan shroud.

https://entropy-orders.com/22-Mopar-BIG-BLOCK-HD-Aluminum-Radiator.html

My 440 would have no more than 475 hp.

This Speedcooling unit is a heavy duty 2 row they say.

Has anyone used this radiator?

I am thinking this radiator could be a good option to directly swap into my car without having to modify anything.

I am worried that this radiator would not be able to handle my power numbers.

Anyone use Speedcooling radiators in general before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Nice and should work well. To bad it's out of stock. Nice price too.

My 440 came with a 22” rad.
It’s now high compression, 500+ HP and never a cooling issue.

I have an Entropy 26" that uses the "true" 1.25" rows. 2 row radiator w 0.25" space between rows makes it 2.75" thick. I live where my summer temps are 125° and am pushing 496" 600hp w a/c. It keeps mine cool. However, the dual fan kit they supplied did not work for me. It worked in stop n go but on the highway it would get over 225° and I would have to pull over. W stock shroud and 7 blade 18.5" fan, I run about 175° on interstate now. Radiators are nice quality. I would think a 22" 2 row w proper w/p, pulley ratios, thermostat and mix of coolant will keep your 440 cool.

71 Superbee 383 Magnum factory 22" Radiator Support
No Air - Factory 3:23 Sure Grip

Not all big blocks on a 71 Charger came with a 26" Radiator

Air conditioning cars had 26"
High performance rear axle cars / Track Pack cars had 26" etc.
3:55-3:91 / 3:54-4:10

I run this 22" Radiator on my 71 Superbee 383/432 Stroker 500 HP - Now running a 3:91 Rear Axle also
Fit perfect - Factory fan shroud fit perfect
Yes very expensive
However when I bought mine they where running a sale around Black Friday and free shipping , and of course around 4 years ago - 1.25" Cooling tubes and Auto Trans
Whole thing was under $500

My E has 22 - sent it to GLEN-RAY . Nice FAT core, cools my HEMI just fine!

I have that same radiator lightly used I'd let go for $150 plus shipping. I'm in FL, so shipping might be pricey.

Thanks for letting me know. Nice engine! I was unaware that big block cars came with 22" radiators. Good to know that a 22" can handle 500 + hp.
Just for reference, a lot of these "keeps my 500+hp cool" live where 100 degrees is "HOT". Your profile says you live in CA. If you live in the Ranco, Victorville, Barstow are, the 115's are a whole other animal.

Thanks for telling me about your set up. I believe you commented on my other radiator post. Thank you. Nice to hear that a 22" should do the job!

Thanks for the reply. The explanation helps. Makes sense now.

Your setup and radiator look really nice. I will have to keep this unit in mind. Maybe I could get it on sale like you did.

I have one in my '62. I like it. No cooling issues at all. Use a fan shroud for better performance.
If this site ever gets back to normal I'd show you in my build thread. You can find the link in "My Photo Garage" if that can work for you.

Found the link for you...

Thanks for finding me your build threads. Very cool stuff. I will have to read up on it in further detail. I am glad that a 22" inch works for you. I have been told by many of you guys to go with a fan shroud. I will do so.

I would be interested, but like you mentioned, the shipping would probably be too much for me. I appreciated you telling me about it! Thank you.

You are right. Good point. I live in the central valley. Typically, it does not get past 110. Very rarely past 108. Is that enough to make a difference? Thanks

For your application, using mechanical 7 blade fan and shroud should be good. I just went through my 3rd dual e-fan trials. Every setup would do ok in town, 195°. But on the interstate, they all hit 225° n climbing at 70mph. My mechanical fan n shroud stay at 175° on interstate and 195° in town. The e-fans w shrouds restrict air on the interstate on my particular car. Others they do real well.

Okay that's great. I will keep these specs in mind. I am sorry that your car does not want to cooperate with electric fans, but I am glad to hear that you found a setup that works for you. Thank you for your help.
