Started on 71 Charger R/T roller today.

Any progress is good. Lugging doors down stairs sounds like a lot of fun. How many projects do you have going right now?

I have about 5 projects going right now. When something stops me on one,I can still get something done on one of the other ones! My friend says that he has a left upper control arm,but if I want it,it's gonna cost me a pizza! I said,done deal!

I just talked to my friend and he said that I can come up and get the upper control arm tomorrow. It's a new program for poor old Mopar owners, called parts for pizza! Lol

So I got up this morning and decided that I would go out and get the front end in the car, while it was still cool enough to work. I finished the front end on the passenger's side and got the tortion bar installed Then I installed the drivers side tortion bar, and then I got the driver's side front end assembled.

I pulled the car out from beside the garage and It has finally seen the light of day! Time to start hanging some panels! I have to get my plasma cutter back from my friend who borrowed it! I am looking forward to seeing this R/T with new rear quarters on it!

Today I started cutting the quarter panels and dutch panel off the car.the jigsaw puzzle welded quarter panel installation done by a previous owner is probably the worst panel repair work I have ever seen in my 40 years of doing body work to Mopars. As expected the drivers side will need an outer wheelhouse,and the inner rocker needs the lower half replaced. The trunk extension is good,but a homemade piece was fabricated to attach it to the rear tailpanel. it is sturdy,and I may clean it up and leave it,if it dosen't interfear with the fitment of the new quarterpanel

This is the first car that I ever cut the quarter off,and it looked better without a quarterpanel on it! I got the new dutchpanel fitted,and cleaned off all the edges of the old quarterpanel. Spotwelds are a bitch to separate!

Thanks, I feel like I am making progress on it. I am at the point where I am cutting out all the ugly stuff and the car is going to come together as a nice buildable 71 Charger R/T. The car really does have very good bones, but it's time to bring the rest up of the car up to snuff.

Well as most of us know all too well,no matter how solid these cars may appear,there is always more areas that need attention. So today I placed another AMD order for two outer wheel housings and one trunk extension.

It took more than an hour to get the piece of the quarter out from under the roof skin. It was spot welded and mig welded where they couldn't spot weld it. When the car was built the quarter panels were installed then the roof skin was laid on top of them. Doing it the reverse way is very difficult. I am going to have to cut the most forward edge off the new panel to be able to fit the panel in.it is only about an inch long and was mig welded so I will just cut it off and mig weld it to the existing one inch piece of the original rear quarter panel.

I checked on the 71 Charger registry,and it said that there were only 332 440 Magnum 4 speed Charger R/Ts built in 1971. Out of the 332 cars built,I wonder how many were N96 Ramcharger hood equipped cars? Maybe 1/3,if that. Its a pretty rare car!
