I have a question regarding the starter I was told to use to clear my headers. It is from a 99 Dakota 5.9l and has a stud and nut for one connection and a blade type for the other. Before I buy it I would like to know if I can just pop off the plastic and blade connection and find a threaded stud under it. It is a USA industries part 611160 starter.

My buddys and I all used a '91 Dodge pickup 318 starter. Got 2 on 440's, 2 on small blocks, and 1 on a 528 Hemi. All you gotta do is take off the plastic piece and hook the wires to the mounting studs. Works great and only cost $68 for a reman at Advance Auto Parts with a lifetime warranty.

Forgive my dumb-assed-ness, but is the Dakota starter appreciably smaller than the older units? Is that the thing?

I may go that route on my 360 if its a direct bolt-in, minor connector swap notwithstanding.

Thanks for the tip!

I am using it on a 440 with TTI headers, yes it is much smaller than the original and more powerful.

Does the piece just pry off with a screwdriver? New the starter is $170, I'm in Canada parts for Mopars are expensive here.

fyi, I also had to get a new cable and make it longer to go around the headers with enough space that it doesn't get too hot.
