starting rearend project, ?

Dana was under a 65 B body, probably not stock 5.7

Bonehead I replaced my springs with Cal Tracs, mono leaf springs.

No -1" I don't have the car completed yet but was shooting for having the top of the rear fenderwell even with the top of the rim. Here is how it's sitting without anything on the car.

I'm hoping with the complete car the back of the car will settle about 1-2" from where it is here.

bonehead, what are you going to do with this car, street only or mostly? Realize that the CalTrac setup that 69 GTX is using is a drag race system, not really for street driving.

Yes it's street car ,, I ordered, shocks and shackels yesterday,,,and talked to Eric at pirate Jacks,,about rear brakes ,he said the disc set up they have do add about 1/2 inch on each side ,, (I have 3/4 clearance ) with 275 tires,, He said they do have Wil wood ,brake set up ,that does not add to overall length, ,,,,800 dollars damit man ,.still looking and thinking

If the pic from 69 GTX has motor & trans in it, that's about where I guess new XHD springs would set. bonehead do your springs have a sag in the main leaf behind the second leaf? Why do you think they're worn out?

When I accelerate seems to drop alot ,,,they look bad, spacers and clamps, no doubt the shackels bushing are bad ,,,my thinking is ,this was my dad's car ,now mine ,I will die with her ,if I'm going to pull rearend wire brush ,pant ,ect ,doing the brakes brake lines ,shackels,,,,what the he'll do spring and rear sway bar ,,,,kinda side note my dad he's 78 now ,and when I talk to him about car ,he gets pissed ,,says same thing ,how you know it's bad ,why the he'll you doing that ?? When I put headers and aluminum intake ,I thought he was going g to blow head gasket

Well, got to think about that a bit. If it "drops a lot" when you accelerate, somethings not quite right, should rise in back.

Dont realy know ,u bolts are tight,, ,,I'll see if picture helps ,Springs don't look like they have much arch, I'm thinking 47 years is the trouble , my dad didn't have right rear for car so years ago he put one out of a satellite 8.3/4 has a 290 somthing gear ,iv Got a 355 sure grup coming first of month ,,,,,by the way i sure do appreciate yall help ..

How far above or below the rim is your wheel well? Have you got a pic of the spring right back by the shackle showing the main & second leaf near the shackle. For springs, not so much the age it's the "cycles" (miles), but new springs are good. In my opinion a rear disc conversion is down the list money wise. Ran drums all around on my '65 Coronet drag car for 11 years. My '66 has stock disc conversion in front (previous owner), drums in back. Discs are easier to work on though & you do need to match the disc setup to the wheel/tire & axle combo.

That was fast ,parts came today from summit ,Hotchkis shackels don't look like right ones, from bolt hole to bolt hole their 4 inch ,but the ones on car are bout 31/2 ,also paper that came with ,said e body ,,but when I look it up on summit site gives me same part number ,but anyway they don't look as good as picture, the shocks are qa1 look good but have seen about fit yet
