Stealing electricity

That's funny right there. But, if everybody with their electric cars did that the cost will add up! I better be a good neighbour and unplug my Christmas lights from their house.

They should also arrest anyone who plugs a cell phone in at a board meeting or during a PTA meeting. Stealing is stealing.

Yep, it's stealing, but what are the taxpayers going to spend to prosecute a 5 cent theft.

and what would the sentence be ... nothing.

Would it be a prosecution worthy offense if someone came in my yard and took a stick that fell from a tree I planted and nurtured by spending money of water and maintaining it?

Frivolous and a waste of taxpayers dollars

I was just on the subject of electric cars with a coworker today. He was needling me about driving around in my Ram even though I don't always carry a load in the bed- saying it's a waste, it's bad for the environment, blah blah blah. So I sent him the link to this Wire article about the Prius and it's so called low carbon footprint:

http://www.wired.com/autopia/2008/05/the-ultimate-pr/

There's a myth that went around about the Prius' carbon footprint being smaller than the Hummer, which is kind'a true but not. But what is true is that it takes over 113 million btu's of energy to make one Prius. Which means you have to drive 46,000 miles to get the clock to zero. Not exactly saving the world with a Prius. Don't believe the hype. Government subsidies or not, electric is still not the way to go as far as the environment's concerned. And stealing is stealing.

I concur Moderistsouth but instead of throwing good money after bad the cop should have just slapped him and told him he was a silly wuss and threatened to do worse if he stole again instead of hauling him to the clink

Must have been a conservative cop busting a liberal electric car owner. The cop probably noticed the Obama bumper sticker on the windshield....good for him :D

He said in the article that he actually did it before and it wasn't an issue. Not that adds up to a lot, but still. I wonder if he was already warned and just didn't reveal it for the article. Also in Atlanta- no surprise that an Atlanta cop would pull that stunt. Fortunately, there's no real crimes going on in Atlanta :violent1:

If you think about it, people using cooking oil instead of diesel or making their own biodiesel are not paying the fuel taxes that help maintain our roads.

Not yet but I bet the gooberment will find a way to tax cooking oil before it's over with. Do we pay tax on ethanol? Better not! The gooberment should be paying us to use that ****....

Another thing, do we have to pay tax on home made beer? Not that I know of...yet. So why should be have to pay on home made fuel? Besides, the damn overloaded trucks are what's killing our roads.

I've scoped out every gas station that sells ethanol-free gas within 50 miles and every gas station between my house and my mother's house 2 hours away. It seems like in Texas, you should have lots of them, like we do in Georgia and South Carolina.

The difference here is the electric gar guy is "green stealing" (yeah, I just made that up). If he were "stealing for profit" (there is that P word again) then he would get 10 yrs. and pay a hefty fine. But stealing in the name of green energy, as in his electric car is one small step to combat GW, etc.. He will get a public slap on the wrist and later and award from a community organizer.

exactly

There is more going on here than in the story.
It's Chamblee police, not Atlanta.
And the guy lives in Decatur.

Thief is a thief, even if he drives a EV Nissan Leaf...LOL... no matter the value of the theft, you can bet, he knew damn well, it was stealing, when he ran the cord, to plug the car's charging system into the "schools" outlet, premeditated throw the damn book at him... Justice !!, make him do 1,000 hrs of community service, picking up garbage, sweeping hallways, mopping floors, some demeaning work, at that school that he stole from or something along those lines... we can't let these greenie's or people with EV or Hybrids, get away with this type of stuff or it will be common place events... Judges, DA's & city/county lawyers, are on a public tax payers salary anyway, we pay for their time, whether they do anything or not, might as well use their services, push threw some damn paper, minor costs to the city/county... IMHFO anyway, OK off the hatred for greenie's soapbox
