Hey BBody folks. Has any one had leaking from the top of the steering box housing? Can this be fixed while still in place? Thanks ahead of time.

It is a hack of a "fix" but sometimes adding some brake fluid to the steering fluid causes the seals in the pump and steering box to swell a little and slow or stop a leak.

I wiped everything down.Hoses are dry so I concluded it was coming from the box housing .The fluid puddles there in the picture.Could be coming from somewhere else?

My 70 RR is leaking in the same spot. I think my box may have to come out. If you come up with a easy fix please post. Thanks

I looked at the exploded view in the manual and it shows an o ring under the threaded ,castle nut looking retainer.Could be it .? I will post what worked for me when I get there.

More liable to be that seal under the nut..... wipe it down again and wrap a shop towel around the adjuster nut tight.

You could probably remove the adjuster nut and the spanner nut and replace those o-rings, reinstall, and readjust the sector backlash. On pretty much every mopar I owned, the leak was usually the valve body housing on top of the box. They tend to warp right through the o-ring grooves. I disconnect the lines, take the valve body off, and “resurface” the face of the valve body where it meets the steering box with an oil stone while watching TV. Then reinstall with new-rings. I did this to my Bee in 1978 and it hasn’t leaked since.

Any source for the o rings? 1 Kool Bee?
Used to be a valve body service kit from ma mopar. I’ll have to look up the part number, probably disco-d a long time ago. Best to measure the old ones and find viton replacements. Firm feel might be able to provide the top cover and adjuster shaft o-rings.

Mopar Part #s:

Top adjuster cover o-ring:
early 2” dia: 1733615
Late 2.1” dia: 2537716

Adjuster shaft seal: 1822203

Valve body seals:
Larger 1 each: 1823150
Small 2 each: 1556385

Steer N Gear has all kind of seals and kits for these steering boxes.

Same issue here. Firm Feel Stage II box. Unable to loosen that castle nut on top, they must have overtorqued it.
