I would be interested to know, what decent steering box would fit in my 77 camper van. Paid about $400 to get it fixed, but it is still not great. 318 engine.
Only possibility would be if either car has had the box replaced in its prior life and a unit with the larger Pittman shaft was used making it necessary to use the corresponding Pittman arm. Or vice versa. Measure the shaft diameter between the arm and box body, you'll know for sure. May also have different fitting sizes between the two. Easy to deal with.
Going relatively straight down the road would be nice. Others with camper vans have reported wandering all over. 3/4 and one ton chassis. Mine is a 3/4 ton, and much better after fixing, but it is still the worst steering mobile I have driven.
I had a 77 1/2 ton no issues. What are you running for tires? I had a set of transforce (firestone) on my silverado, wear like iron/handle like $hit. to hard a compound.
with the camper van , had the same prob , got rid of some extra weight on rear put heavy duty shocks on rear realigned front. ok after that , also was your van org 16.5 wheels and changet to 16 if so that is the prob untill complete realignment ran into this exact prob before , factory spindel road height changes draskatly . Same goes for our cars .
