hello, recently i bought a power steering and pump for my 69 rr,but original i have a manual steering column,is this a problem? because i heard some people saying there is a difference.

thanks!

Your manual column is longer than a power column, and the Pitman arm is different. You will also have to add a pulley on the crank as well.

yes,i know about the pulley and pitman arm,i didn't know about the steering column,so basically i'm screwed :s.gr

Never screwed, get a shorter ps shaft for your column and replace it, it's easy to do. Also replace the bearings in the column while your at it.
Some say you can pound in the shaft to the correct length (they are collapsible) I replaced mine when I converted to power steering.

Others on here have a source to adapt the longer column, I primarily use original parts. believe it or not it is easier to secure a power steering column than a manual. if you have a column shift, it is even more common. I have a couple here.
Good Luck!

Your column is worth more than a PS column I'm sure you could get someone to trade.

You can also disassemble your column, grind the tack welds where the two pieces of the shaft go together, shorten it, and re-tack it. I don't recommend this though. If you do this don't weld it solid, it is tacked so that the welds can break and the column can collapse in an accident.

Can anyone tell me the measured length of a power steering column shaft ? I have purchased the pump and have a pully with extra grove , just need length of shaft so I can adapt my manual one to suit. We plan to remove the plastic pins , adjust shaft to length, then re-drill and re-insert original pins or make new ones.

Run a search on here, I went through this a few weeks back. I think it may be in the 66-70 section.

The other option is a conversion shaft, I think mancini sell them. Keep your column as is.

PS don't bash in the shaft, your remove the 'collapsible' part from the column which is a MAJOR safety feature.

expensive, but cheaper then a replacement with rebuild and I'm pretty sure it replaces the crappy stock joint. So its an 'upgrade' as well.
