steering gear off center

Not sure why this thread got revived after 6 years.. but the angle is absolutely fine as long as it doesn't bind.. that's what that coupler is meant to do.. allow angles. The angle on mine isn't as severe but no issue with it at all..

on my install i find the Borgeson coupler is more forgiving with the slight angle and I use lucas power steering fluid and a derale cooler with no problems, 4 years since install.

Rad, can you show how you mounted your cooler? I saw Derale has a 4 row cooler that's like $45.. but no mount on it. I have only driven my car a few times with the borgeson setup but man that pump gets hot.... I spend all my time above 2600-3000 though

I used the borgeson coupler on my first upgrade in a 68 charger, worked great, I put one in my 70 cuda, had a mean angle similar to the pics posted using the no cut coupler, not sure if that is the issue causing that, but the coupler cap keeps getting knocked off when it turns. I'm sure this really doesn't hurt anything except ascetics, but I will be shimming my box to correct this, or open up the top of the cap to allow for the elongation of the turning radius, will have to see if there is enough meat on the cap to do it when it goes back together after my recent mechanical upgrades. plus installing a pump cooler I recently acquired

Thanks , I have been thinking about it. Shims first & then maybe universal joint.

I did end up shimming the 1 outside bolt on mine which did lessen that angle, but i did it mainly cause i didn't like how it was sitting on the k-frame and didn't want to crank it down and break a ear off the box.. i have seen other guys shim it also without issue.. bout 1/8" takes a lot of that angle out. i like that with the coupler there is no cutting the column or anything

Thanks again, I will try shims first. There no binding, full turn to-to seems good. I just want to sort it out if I can before engine drop in.

yeah.. it sucked doing that whole job with my engine in and it's just a small block... i used 2 washers on mine.. if i were smart i would have done a small plate with a hole through it cause now i worry bout it rocking and cracking (my brain always goes to worst case scenario..) but i'm sure it's fine.... i love the steering, it's actually lighter than i expected...

P.S. put a cooler on the return line... pump gets way hotter than expected...

Glad you like it. I did call Pete @bergman told should be fine, but said I could shim it. I'm like you same worst scenario , but stay ++

Yeah. the shimming doesn't bug me, it's more that i should have made some like 2.5x1.75" plates instead of using washers.. i don't stay positive i just tend to do stuff then think... ahh ****... think of a different way then do it again :) A lot of my car has been redone a few times now :)

I looked at borgeson atlrast a yr.checking all reviews, talking to any&everyone, u tube etc. Same with my motor, what cam, pistons, rings everything over & over. It's horrible way to think. I lost out on a lot of deals bc of this. Same with my paint did engine bay & interior changed paint color 3 times!!! Crazy. Put all back, take out put back. Nuts.
