stereo speaker question

I recently purchased a 1976 Cordoba with factory am 8 track stereo. I would like to keep this stereo set up. The previous owner put modern 6x9 speakers in the trunk/package tray area. He ran speaker new wire but never hooked them up. The original speaker wires are still in the trunk. However, there is only one wire per speaker and the new speakers have a positive and negative terminal. I think the original speakers have a common ground somewhere under the dash. How do I mate the original single speaker wire to the new 2 terminal 6x9 speakers? can this even be done? The rear speaker wire colours are white for left rear and yellow for right rear. Thanks

After looking at my front speakers, i imagine that there is a wiring harness that will do the trick. Just gotta find one now

The factory rear speakers used the chassis for the negative side of the speaker. So for the new speakers make a short wire jumper from the minus side of the speaker to one of the speaker retaining screws and hook up the positive side to the existing factory wire. You may have to cut the end of and use the appropriate generic crimp on

No problem, happy to help. Could never figure why Chrysler chose to run only one wire to each of the rear speakers when the front speakers have the 2 wires. If you ever chose to upgrade to an aftermarket stereo definitely use new wire pairs to the rear as grounding the negative speaker leads on most radios will damage the radio
