I have a 69 Coronet with a 318 2bbl

I just ripped out the igniter 2 conversion and put the points back in

I adjusted the timing and now the engine runs well.....no pinging, and it starts right up
My issue is that I have a new ballast resistor in the ignition circuit, but I still measure battery voltage on both sides of the resistor and at the negative coil wire going to the distributor

My recollection is that there should only be 8 or so volts on the passenger side of the resistor
Am I missing something?
Will I burn out my points running the engine?

Thx

Battery voltage on both sides is not right. Not good for your points. The purpose of the resistor is to reduce the outflow current at low speed operation.

Did you check right away? Need to wait a little till resistor warms up, then one side should drop down. Otherwise, Ranger is right. p.s. never heard of ballast resistor failing and letting straight voltage thru it; usually they break and stop voltage from exiting.
