Come on you guys, It is scripted to be entertaining. This show generates big money , and I am sure the "characters" are being well paid. That is how replacement cars are being paid for. That big money will close highway(s) for them to race on, make arrangements with authorities, pay large liability insurance costs, provide medics and ambulances that you
don't see and most likely law enforcement that are likewise not seen. As for the "Pro Mods" , they didn't last long because the viewing public didn't want to see that..just to much over the top for us car people to tolerate.
I do believe that it is real racing , winner takes all. --no pre arranged winners. I also believe that Farm truck and Azins street racing opponetes are not quite as depicted and that there are people that would be willing to loose in order to be on the show.
SOOO, you can be critical , but you still watch it , don't you? LOL................MO

No I do not watch it. One time was enough. It promoted all that is bad about the sport in a positive way.
Yes I can get carried away on the street and know the consciousness of those actions. This show throws those consciousness out the window and present the act a being perfectly acceptable.

To add to what I said earlier, how many of you know, even love the heritage of Woodward Ave.? The areas off the cruising street that were makeshift drag strips? In New Orleans, it was Wisner Blvd, with a bayou down one side, City Park and a public high school down the other, so NO cross streets and a traffic light at the starting line. Practically zero risk for someone other than the racers to be injured. Hayne Blvd, with the levee on one side and no cross streets, in a remote area, and "the Pad" in an industrial area that sees almost no traffic with no cross streets (although for the racers, those wooden power poles are potentially deadly). American Graffiti with its race scenes, and countless other movies and stories about street racing.
I am not advocating it, but seriously, it is a major part of Americana.

They have a disclaimer at the beginning of the show. Have any of you read it? Sure, these guys (like many of us I'm sure) have raced on the street, but ALL race scenes in the show are filmed under controlled conditions, closed roads. Test hits may be a different story, but when they do that, no other traffic is around.

I don't think they even try to hide the fact that it's a controlled street race... which is fine with me.

Let's see.... there is more rubber down on the OKC road than there is at my local track.
And did anyone see the show when Chief crashed.... than ambulance was on site.

These guys may have raced illegally 4 or 5 years ago... but now I would say they have a Street Race Permit.

I was smack dab in the middle of the late 60's muscle car wars. The fastest cars in this area , at the time was: my 65 Chevelle, 327, 4 speed, 410 gears.---my friends 1966 Chevelle SS 396, 360 horse, 410 rear gears-- several similar Chevelles, and a couple of Ford 427 side oilers No Mopars at that time--UNTIL --a 1968 Dodge Dart, Swingee ? with a 340 , 4 speed , and I don't know what rear gears, showed up and blew us all away! We raced on the highway, out in the country, and every town around had their designated 1/4 mile marked out. Sundays we would go to a different town and grudge raced...no money bet.
We all, being young , never gave a thought to there being a wreck and someone getting hurt. Guys and gals wanted to be the flagger and stood between the cars to start the race. How easy it would have been to get crushed between two cars. Age brings a little wisdom , and I kept my Son off the streets by us building a drag car strictly for the strip, and it was much faster than anything on the street.
Now with the bad influence of " Street Outlaws" I find myself wanting to do a little street racing again !!!................................MO

Corn patch there is a nice flat stretch of river bottom just south of you with enough straight away just not to many options for exits. A very lucrative opportunity for the Iowa department of Justice..

yeah those street outlaw guys r crazy...pro stock style cars on the street...thats modern tech for u..have to be young and crazy with no fear to do it but then again....

in 1980 at Pismo beach,,I was doing 100 foot jumps at the top of competition hill with a '78 Honda cr250r runnin a paddle tire...right before the top of the hill I was in 4th gear wide open and down shifted to 3rd,,wide open throttle to get the lift...and flew..what they now call extreme motocross..but also..all my scars are from bikes...ahhh.to be young again..I would rule the world....lol..

I was disappointed when pro mods started showing up. THAT is not a "street car". I was naturally happy when Big Chief decided NO pro mods this season. I know that these guys don't generally drive these cars around, especially as they have gotten more radical, some, like the Farmtruck can still be "driven around" and some of the others as well. YES, IMO for it to be a "street" car it MUST have a license plate, title, VIN, etc. All of the tube chassis and roll cage stuff is ok as long as they have mostly sheet metal (rear quarters, roof) as was specified for the Gas Monkey race. That stuff is needed for safety.

I gave that show one chance, and when I saw pro stock cars racing on the street I turned it off. The cars should be required to be street legal.

They are.

All kinds of Youtube videos showing these cars prowling the streets of OKC. Shawn dropping his kid off at school, Chief cruising around in the old Crow. Just because they trailer them to the race spot doesn't mean they don't drive them...

It been a long time but we use to occasionally camp at the Lake of Three Fires. Have not been there in years.

I got tired of reading all these posts, and skipped down to the bottom. Those guys were just
"also rans" before the big money covered them. They almost make me ashamed to be an okie, we don`t all act like that. Where I came from, growing up, all of them would have got their *** kicked every time they opened their mouth w/ all the stupidity. They were in tulsa a few yrs back, in a controlled street race, the city council won't let them come back, they wanted to. The motor mouths are supposed to be here at the dragstrip pretty soon, guess who ain`t going!

You know guys..if you like the show that's fine...Im a retired (after 25 years) Highway Patrolman in Oklahoma. I have seen the very real after effects of street racing. I f they are lucky its a few scrapes,broken bones..things like that and a wrecked car. Sometimes it's a lot worse. I was the one that had to notify next of kin sometimes. You ever want to know what part of my job sucked the most it was death notifications. And in street racing...totally preventable. I hope to god that never happens on that show but the first time they either get killed or kill some bystander it will all be over.

As to Chief not betting Rawlings ... the deal was they'd each DRIVE. Rawlings wouldn't so Chief did the right thing. I wouldn't have blamed him if he'd flipped Rawlings the bird and gone home without making a pass.

Rawlings was never supposed to drive that car. The show wouldn't have let him anyway. He's not an NHRA certified driver like big bully is. Watching all that pissing and crying from little chief made me sick. I lost all respect for him. Aaron was theoretically supposed to drive, but I doubt he has the proper certification either. They both brought pro drivers, and pro teams to help them.

Rawlings was never supposed to drive that car. The show wouldn't have let him anyway. He's not an NHRA certified driver like big bully is. Watching all that pissing and crying from little chief made me sick. I lost all respect for him. Aaron was theoretically supposed to drive, but I doubt he has the proper certification either. They both brought pro drivers, and pro teams to help them.

Get caught at this level of stupidity and NHRA will pull your license.
