Stripped bolt, Of Coarse!

So I am trying to remove my rocker arm hold down china crap bolts from the alum head that is on the motor in the car and of course I stripped 2 of them.

How do I get these out?

I tried to use those stripped bolt extractor sockets. HA! not even close to working. Any other ideas???
 
i assume you mean stripped the heads of the bolts, not the threads ?? ... i quality set of extractors will break the bolts loose ......chineese tools will not work !!!! ... good luck !
 
The redneck in me

The redneck in me say "Find a GOOD set of vice grips and a hammer"
I twisted the head off of one once. I drilled the bolt and used an easy out (not really all that easy).
 
Grind the rest of the head of the bolt off, remove your rockers, then grab hold of what reamins of the bolts with vice grips as said above and turn em out.
 
The bolts are china crap not the extractors I used. I couldn't get the extractors to work because they were stripping off metal from the head.

The bolts are recessed in the holddowns so I can't get to the bolt heads.

No fancy plasma torch here!

I drilled out the bolt head but no luck so far with that either.
 
Without seeing them, sounds like a Blair rota-broach (similar to a spot weld cutter) about your only option. A set runs about $75 from Enco, but once you get them you'll find a bunch of uses for them. Sets run from 3/8" to 7/8" diameter, use low rpm and lots of wd-40. Other option-pull head and set up on mill. (35 yrs as machinist)
 
You can also get a left hand drill bit (not a joke) because those require you to run the drill opposite normal rotation to cut, and by doing so the bit may snag on the bolt and begin to unscrew it. I do this often with small fasteners. Tip: get the largest bit you can without wiping out the threads (as near to the bolt shank diameter as possible).

I have also welded a piece of steel to a broken bolt and removed it that way but that may not be good in your situation.

Or the old fashioned drill it out until the shank is so thin so you can take a scribe, hammer and punch or needle nose and pick out the pieces. Then chase with a tap or repair with a Helicoil.

Prior to any drilling make sure you have a good starting point just off the center of the bolt. Don't let the bit wander into the aluminum too much and if necessary weld up a drill bushing that attaches to some other tapped holes to keep the bit from wandering.
 
Head can't be removed until the rockers are removed.

I am going to try the reverse drill bit next.
 
If that doesnt work weld it. I have welded nuts back onto broken bolts as a new head. Its worked more than once.
 
If that does not work you will have to destroy the hold down by sawing it off on the sides and cracking it open like a nut to expose the bolt sucks but whatda ya gunna do?
 
The reverse drill bit worked. I had to hammer it into it but I got it out. My next step was to cut the hold down off.

Now hopefully I can get the heads fixed and on the car before winter sets in.
