I have a factory manual sun roof 74 RR. I currently am fixing the sunroof as it wasn’t working when I purchased the car. Turns out it was missing the gear, which I replaced. The sunroof never completely set level with the roofline when completely closed. It seals fine and does not leak, but it is dropped down a little bit in the back. Is this normal or is it supposed to be completely flush with the roof line when closed. I know it has to drop to open, but if I remember correctly, back in the day, the first 1/4 turn or so of the crank handle dropped the sunroof when opening and raised it when closed. Maybe that’s not necessarily the case with this car, but I remember it on my dad’s 2002 BMW it worked that way. Does anyone have pictures of their sunroof? It’s hard to see in this picture but it’s noticeably not flush in the back. The back is to the right.

On my 1974 Charger SE the sunroof sat flush with the roof when closed. There are adjustments in the 1974 Body manual

Definitely get the chassis service manual it is online it shows all the adjustment. Been working on my 72 for 37 years

I believe the sunroof info was an insert to the FSM, at least for one year.

I think it's posted on FBBO.

Can someone with a sunroof car take a picture of the gaskets on the roof? Sunroof open and closed. The shop is putting the sunroof back in the car and I want to verify it is correct. They currently have a 3/4 gasket on the metal sunroof panel installed with the flat side of the gasket on the roof side of the metal sunroof. No gasket on the other 1/4 of the sunroof. Is the gasket supposed to be on the opening and not the sunroof metal sliding panel with the squishy side pointing up? This is what it looked like before the shop took it apart.

The Bulbous part goes up on the front 3/4 of the roof. With the back 1/4 having the gasket attached to the panel. There is also a water gasket on the flat part of the panel under the roof. Find the Chassis service manual for 71 72 even 73 and it shows the gaskets.

Those look great. I thought all the sunroof cars got vinyl topped to hide the “work”.

Thanks. More pictures if you have them showing the sunroof half closed.

I have the service manual. The sunroof section is an insert which I don’t have, nor can I find. There is a drawing on sunroof registry but it is too fuzzy and you can’t read it. If anyone has that parts drawing please post. I really need help here. Can someone please explain how the gasket’s are supposed to fit for the sunroof opening seal? More pictures with the sunroof open, partially opened, and closed, with an explanation of if it is one gasket, or 2 and where it attaches. Does it attach on the sunroof panel, or the roof openings,or a combination of both.

The power sunroof cars did. Those were added by American Sunroof off assembly line.

And I thought the manual sunroof cars didn't have to have vinyl tops and were installed on the Chrysler assembly lines.

Are the manual sunroof cars a much different design mechanicals?

The registry noted below could be of assistance?

I’ll try that if I don’t have any luck here. Maybe he can give that drawing that is on the site that I can’t read. Or maybe someone here has it.
