Maybe someone can enlighten me as I am not sure , Question I Installed the thrust spacers in the unit 742 Sure Grip and was wondering how much movement the Thrust Spacers should have when installed like side play any HELP would be appreciated , Thanks.

If I recall correctly, there should not be any play.

The spacers, or buttons as I call them, will have side to side movement within the carrier. The pin holds them together so they don't fall out (or it's supposed to but never does) but they do float. The axle end play adjustment takes care of the rest.

So did they do away with axle buttons in 1965?

The buttons follow the carrier style, but no matter what there is always some sort of axle thrust mechanism. Powerlocks (four pinion sure grip units) are the only carriers that I have seen with what I call buttons held together with a pin.
