Suregrip worth rebuilding?

Noob here Guys, I know very little about these. I acquired a bucket with the disassembled remains of a 3.23 Suregrip chunk. The case is a 489 and while I think its mostly all there , there is some rust on spider gears. May or may not clean up. My question is, what would be a ball park guess at what all the needed small parts, including springs, bearings, seals, and clutch plates cost these days. What is the cost of a brand new Suregrip if they are available. And then Im seeing complete used chunks selling from 300 to 900 here and elsewhere. I mean, there is a cost factor that ways in that says it is just not worth it to rebuild...thanks..

if its a clutch sure grip then yes its worth it

From a financial sense I’d say sell the parts. If you need it for yourself then build it. I wouldn’t build it in anticipation of making a bundle if that’s not “your gig” to begin with. Just sold a 4.88 489 sure grip for $500. Bought a 3.23 742 sure grip two summers ago for $350. You can go on ebay and see these for $1000 all day long but for most of us these transact at lower prices.

Clutch type suregrips are more desirable, and rebuildable. Cone style is what is most likely to be in a 489 case (though clutch and cone styles are interchangeable) and is less desirable, and supposedly not rebuildable (though they certainly are!).
I think both suregrip types are available new, but i dont know where to get rebuild parts. Im sure someone here does.
You could check with Dr Diff about new assemblies.

rebuilding a sure grip takes some knowhow and better - experience. They're not like doing a GM or Ford rear...ask me how i know...lol
