Hi,
I have a 1969 RR with an automatic. I am looking for a way to mount a tach without drilling the dash. I thought about the in-dash route, but really would prefer an aftermarket tach. I believe the dash pad to be original, so I really don't want to drill it and the shifter on the column doesn't seem to leave me any space to mount it. Would anyone have any suggestions? I looked around and really don't see much in the way of an A-Pillar mount for the B Body.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

my 68 runner, its a 4spd but you should be able to position it around the shift handle for the auto, two small screws into the metal behind the pad and another hole for the wiring

I mounted mine under the ashtray. There's a screw hole under there that I was able to use so I didn't need to modify anything. I'll be removing it as I sent off my cluster for restoration and I'm expecting my tick tock tach to be calibrated.

Make a bracket that fits under the pad as in post #3. My 64 is the same way.

Strap it to the column ala day 2 with a rusty hose clamp - in honor of Gale Govier.

Just mount a small, LED, shift-light in the car.

If you are unable to strap it to the column, I'd say Silversedan (post #3) has the next best option.

I decided to go this route.. I'll post a pic of the finished product when it comes in..

I haven't wired it in yet, but here is the bracket with tach loose-mounted.

I got it for $72 including shipping at superbirdbob.com. It sat a little high for my taste, so I put it un a vise to flatten it down a bit. Seems like it is made well. Very strong. The direct link is here http://www.superbirdbob.com/acme-products/tack-bracket/. They do paypal or you have to call them with a CC. He shipped quickly and answered all of my questions over email. I wouldn't go any larger than 3 3/4" on the tach. Classic Industries has a similar one, but I am not sure if this guy is the one that makes theirs. At CI, this was $120 shipped.
I am going to cut a small hole in the defroster duct and run the wires down through the duct rather than having the wires hanging loose.

Here is mine. '66 Belvedere with a bench seat and column shift. I made a little aluminum foot for the tach mount, bolted the foot to the tach mount, then screw clamped it on there. Had to test fit it a few times to make sure the signal would move though. Has been solid for a year or so. Like you, I didn't want to put any hole in the original dash pad or dash, which is in great shape. Let me know if you want a better picture.
