Taking off a carbeurator on a 1990 caddilac brougham

Never took a carbeurator off before. I am giving my 1990 caddilac brougham 305 sbc a tune up. I have replaced the swaybar repair kit and I have done a lot to this car but I need to rebuild the carbeurator. I bought a carb rebuild kit but I was wondering is there 4 main bolts on taking off a carbeurator? I was just wondering if you guys had any genrall videos to add or tips on taking off a carbeurator to do a rebuild.

I'm thinking you should take the car to a mechanic. Just my 2 cents
 
If this car still has a carburetor (and not throttle body fuel injection) then you better get a good service manual or a mechanic. Just before going to fuel injection, the last iteration of carburetors were called feedback carburetors and they are not a trivial rebuild. I'm just saying if you never done much work with carbs you probably don't want to start with one of these.

Well damn doesnt that just beat the whole purpose of this site, forums and the whole point of do it yourself? I have step by step procedures that came with diagrams on how to rebuild the carbeurator. Just doesnt say anything on taking it out of the caddilac. Anyways, when I got my charger I didnt know anything about the ignition system. I had help from you guys and a guy that showed me how to use a voltemeter. I got all the lights and fixed all of the gauges to work. That right there is harder than taking out a carbeurator. You guys show me how then and not now? Rat rod and all them boys in the daytime will tell you. They helped me then and I accomplished a lot.

4 nuts that hold it on dude, also disconnect the throttle cable and any brackets etc, also pvc ports ( if any) stuff a clean rag into the intake manifold dont forget to pullit out later. get a plastic container to keep any bolts nuts in etc. take photos every step to help you out.

if you stuff it up you can always take it to a pro later, i have been told by some people here pretty much what they told you, it also pissed me off and made me want to do it myself more . enjoy it

The carb kit has got to be worth more than the car; why bother!?!?!?!

Seriously though, I agree with D575. If you have to ask how to take a carb off, you really shouldn't be tackling that project.

Sorry if I offended you , I thought it was a joke post. I'm sure you're more than capable of rebuilding the carburetor.

Hey guys;let's cut Dom some slack-we all had to learn at some point. I've got the same unit that Daredevil posted a pic of on my '90 Chev truck. Dom;get a GOOD penetrating oil and spray any fittings that need to be removed. Everything is dis-similar metals and can get pretty well oxidized and corroded. DON'T force anything in removal,and like Benno said-take photos! In my early years,I made drawings or took pics to avoid mistakes on reassembly. Use anti-seize on any fitting threads and even the holding nuts/bolts. Good Luck!
 
Don't be a penny wise and a pound foolish.What about the special tools needed for the rebuild? Go get a replacement body...
 
First off, it's not a 305. If it is, it's not the original engine. Only 2 engines came in that car. The 307 Oldsmobile and the 350 (5.7) chebbie. Also, yes, it very well probably has a carburetor. You need to know, they ain't easy to work on. Also, there are several computer controlled solenoids and switches on the carburetor. They all need to be tested because if any of them are bad and you rebuild it and reuse them, you will be right back at square one. Those are some of the hardest carburetors to get right that there in the automotive world. Good luck.
 
Any carb with emission feedback, electronics and adjustments are hard to work with but not impossible to rebuild if you have the time, patience and resources to do it more power to you I'm only saying this out of experience working on cars for a living.
