Taking Up New Residence

More bodywork this week.

The passenger side took a hit at one time and the bodywork was starting to show its age. So just some temporary work to make it last a little longer and look more presentable.

Now I'll have to get the wiring harness cleaned up and install it. Clean up the headlight buckets, stainless trim, straighten out one of the two grills that I have, don't know which one is better, ect.

Cleaned and installed the headlight buckets.

Ran to three stores to buy four headlight bulbs. Learned the hard way, don't buy Chinese! The H5006 bulbs fit fine. The H5001 bulbs don't fit. Wrong tab orientation, they're close but won't work.

So I thought I would clean up the lights that came with the car. First one cleaned up real nice. Second one, being very careful, I broke the little glass tip in the center! So they not going to work.

I looked them up on NAPA's website and they have the Wagner brand. I had one made by Wagner at the one parts store and they look more like the non halogen bulb. They only had two so I cancelled out on them. I'll hit NAPA up in the morning. I want four of the same brand. It's a fkn headlight! What's the problem?

Went ahead and cleaned the parking light assemblies and installed them.

Back on the '62 today.

Napa had the H5006 and H5001 bulbs for me this morning. Wagner product, made by Federal Mogul. The problem I had with the Phillips was that the high beam (H5001) had the wrong backs on them. The three nubbs were orientated like the low beam (H5006). Morons!

If you look back to post #389, I decided to use the back grill. The front one looked straight but further inspection showed a lot more work. Too many imperfections. I fabricated a piece of aluminum to fit the inside of the grill pickets to reshape the kinks. The one picket was really bad but in the end it came out better than I thought it would.

Doing some trial fitment

Sanding and sanding. Then taping up all of the bare areas. (My hands are flaring up)

Ready for paint. Getting late so after painting it I just took it into the house to stay warm overnight. Enough for one day!

Needed to install the lower valance before the grill. The hood latch bracket and a support piece goes on after that. Easier to do without the grill in the way.

Next is trying my hand at stainless steel trim. The better pieces are what I've found over the years and they have a couple of spots that need work. The real bad pieces are what was on the car!
