Talladega or Bust - 1970 Super Bird Cleanup

The car sounds great Wayne. Congrats on the extensive clean-up job.
I hope all goes well for the trip to Talladega.

Thanks Roger !! Hope to get out again tomorrow pending weather. Maybe the wife running the **** out of the Bird and me chasing her in the Bee. Daughters wedding is Sept 21st with 8 Bridesmaids and then off to Georgia/Alabama for October 7th I believe it is.

Old vacuuum hose from carb to distributor is hard as a rock and almost too short.

Replacing it with some proper ribbed hose.

Distributor vacuum advance hose replaced and air cleaner back into place.

One way to hide the crack in the old battery case. Courtesy of an airplane friend, Wayne Dickson, that runs Southern Aero LLC in Georgia.

Slapped the quality sticker on the vent window.

NOS starter relay showed up in the mail to replace my none OE intermittent one. A great find for 40 bucks! Still in a sealed bag!

Took my honey for a sunset cruise and ice cream !

She's really happy about the ice cream !! I'm more concerned about the ahole in front of me it seems...

All lit up and looking great.

Looks like she wants another ride...

Headlights all working, as well as vacuum pods running perfect. They even work hours after shutting the car off !

Figured I may as well adjust the headlights while I was out there.

Now I can see when the deer jump out on the road !

I swapped out the studs on my Beeper when I got the mag wheels with the shoulder nuts.

That's nice and glad it works for you. My Bee was swapped out to all Right hands years ago, but the Bird will remain stock with righty tighties and leftie tighties to keep it original.

My score this month... PLYMOUTH letters that have zero pitting and just need a polish and repaint for 30 bucks!

I put the set of US Indy Mags on the Beeper when it was only a year old. Daily driver until 1989, pickled & parked until Dec 2003 when I tore it apart, cleaned and painted (powdercoated the drive train) and had it running, good as new in Jan 2007. Some modernization done but kept stock parts in storage, "just in case"!

Composite picture taken when I started and ended the restoration.

Well done sir! There's nothing like a road trip in a beautiful classic like yours. Have a great time:thumbsup:

These are probably repo's don't know if would use these? not mine. Ordered some for a 76 plymouth c body at my 15 years ago doubt you could still get them. They could do a dealer inventory search to see if other dealers have some. Beautifully Bird!

Thanks Fran.. I didn't need them, just wasn't gonna pass them up as spares that folks thought were for a '64... :D

Test load and tie down logistics run today. Able to get enough room for us to sleep in front of the car if need be. Now to find all the spares, camping supplies, etc that we might need for a few weeks to a month down South!

Tucked away in the bird cage. Good luck with the road trip Wayne.

would it be safer to have one set of straps criss/crossed to prevent side shift in the trailer!

It's not going anywhere Don. Tire straps on all 4 corners the way I've hauled cars for 30 years. The two blue ones are just safeties in case there's a panic stop or collision on the way down.
