having problems with temp gauge. on the back of the cluster are the two studs going to temp gauge? i need to check and see if i have continuity from bulkhead to gauge. are there wires that go to gauge or does it work off the circuit board?

what are you working on? A little more info here would help

bad gauge or sending unit, or a wiring problem or bulkhead connection? Check to make sure the sending unit is getting a ground. Not too much thread sealing compound Teflon tape or paint in the threads.

First......Ground the sender unit wire at the sender. Then turn on the ignition & quickly watch the gauge. If it Max Full, the gauge is fine.

If gauge dosen’t move...Possible open circuit in the wire between the gauge & the sending unit. Use a test light. turn the ignition switch to the on position. The temp sensor wire should have power...If yes wire connection is good...It’s either gauge or possible voltage limiter problem.... Dash Limiter cut 12v to 5 0r 6 volts.....

Disconnect the gauge from the cluster wiring & use 2 D batteries to get 3 volts... connect to gauge..If come up to about half way.....good gauge.

i'm working on 69 gtx non ralley. is there a way to check gauge while its in dash? looking at the back of cluster are the two studs on the left the temp gauge? i need to check wiring from bulkhead to gauge. don't want to pull dash if i can check some other way

I have a question along the line of this thread, the temp gauge.

The previous owner of my '69 RR cut the violet wire to the temp sending unit and spliced in what appears to be a resistor. The resistor reads "CP-10 Mexico 0738, 10 n 10% DALE 10W." The "n" between the 10s is what I think is the ohm sign.

If I recall correctly, the factory (non-rally) temp gauge doesn't hit the half way mark when the add-on mech. temp gauge is at 200*. I didn't think too much of it as I had the add-on gauge but I no longer have the add-on gauge as the sensor location is now being used for the temp sensor for my FAST EFI.

Does anyone know why the resistor might have been added? Should I remove it?

Any theories would be appreciated.
