IIRC Mike Nesmith of the Monkees was involved in the development of MTV. The Monkees television show was the birthplace of the music video. They made two music videos in most every episode of the show.

Not sure I can agree with that leap, number one, it wasn't "stereo", which was mentioned like 6? times in MTV's first 12 minutes.

Great Britain had a music video/live performance show in the mid-1970s called "The Old Gray Whistle Test" or something like that.

Kirshner's Rock Concert was a different television program. But both it and the Midnight Special were far better than MTV in many ways.

MTV back then actually played music videos, unlike today. But every once in a while I catch Head Bangers Ball.

Was there ever a better moment than when Danzig threatened to throw Riki into the bonfire? I think not.
