Not sure I can agree with that leap, number one, it wasn't "stereo", which was mentioned like 6? times in MTV's first 12 minutes.IIRC Mike Nesmith of the Monkees was involved in the development of MTV. The Monkees television show was the birthplace of the music video. They made two music videos in most every episode of the show.

Kirshner's Rock Concert was a different television program. But both it and the Midnight Special were far better than MTV in many ways.I remember it as the Midnight Special, or maybe that was the Harvey Wall Bangers?
Was there ever a better moment than when Danzig threatened to throw Riki into the bonfire? I think not.MTV back then actually played music videos, unlike today. But every once in a while I catch Head Bangers Ball.
