I have 4 nieces all "diagnosed" as Autistic... they get government money for this as a "disability" when the simple fact of it is my idiotstick sister raised these kids with the attitude of "if you don't feel like doing something just don't do it".. this included going to school, other proper social behaviour etc... I'm not that old to go back on the Good old days (I'm 35) but I do recognize a complete change from the way I was raised to the years following immediately behind me with a respect of elders and peers and having any sort of a work ethic.... this is the world we live in now

I wish I still had the picture, but back in 1977 we had a Historical Day at our high school, and all the students were asked to come to school wearing an outfit that represented the past. I came in completely decked out as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne that my uncle had been in. I had his jump boots, pants, coat, harness, the works. I also had a hip holster with a Replica Models Inc 1911A1 in it. It was one of those fake pistols that used to be sold for $20 or so back then that looked and functioned like the original but wouldn't fire. Another student came in as a paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne and borrowed similar garb and equipment from a relative and he had a live M-1 Carbine with the paratrooper stock. The guy he got it from had removed the firing pin for him, but other than that it sure looked live.

We walked around the whole day at school like that, and had our picture taken a bunch of times by other students and teachers.

Nowadays we would have been sent straight to jail.
