Crate Hemi's vs Built Hemi's
1. The talent at Chrysler is long gone that knew how these motors worked or how to build them.
2. The best castings "Blocks" are coming from England. World castings and Mopar both are buying from a small specialized manufacturer. this comes direct to my ears from the chief engineer at Mopar.
3. If you do not have the $$$ bucks build a wedge. You get a lot of engine for the money.
4. Hemi Fuel systems suck from the old day's. cranky, stinky and irritable. Fuel Injection or a single 4 barrel is the only way to go.
5. Solid lifter and Hydraulic flat tappet street Hemi's are very sensative to the crummy oil we have today.
6. These engines weight a ton.
7. headers and exhaust manifolds are expensive.
8. They eat lot's of gas.
9. All parts are expensive and few builders have ever seen one or machined one.
10. Balancing is a must.
11. Best head gaskets required.
12. Valve train is weird. Good stuff will set you back 6000.00 for the rocker assembly.
13. I ask myself why i waste my time with these engines. answer few people have them, they hold their value and everyone wants one.
14. A properly built Street hemi will cost 20K by the time your done.
15. Build a 472 or larger with roller cam or save your money.
