This 5 qt Mr Mopar oil pan will fit a 64 Belvedere??? Anyone use this?

We're making my 64's orig 383 to a 431 stroker that will look pretty much like stock & its so hard to find a 5-6 qt pan that will fit without cutting the K frame. SO, after much searching, I saw Classic Industries has what they say is a 6 qt pan for a 64 & I called Mr Mopar who they get it from & he says its a 5 qt that WILL fit a 64 Belvedere, but he has no 3/8" pick up. SO, maybe I can make some pick ups I have fit or find one that'll work. Has anyone ever used one of these pans on an early B body?

Here's the pan I used on my '62 and how I modified the pickup that I bought. It's hard to find a aftermarket pickup that doesn't need modifying.

A 971 pan would be ideal if you can find one. The problem is with the pan you are looking at and the one that I used is how much taller they are in the rear. The centerlink runs really tight to that section of the pan. The factory ones weren't that tall in that area. As my motor mounts settle, its getting very close to rubbing. If I would have used a windage tray it would be rubbing. I see a different pan in my future.

Wow, thanks much for your reply with all the info & pics! 440 Source isn't far from Reno, so I'll take my stock 4 qt pan to Brandon's and see how his pan compares. He told me last year that none of his pans will fit a 64, but I'll check a nyway. My Belvedere is so original with build sheet, warranty card & other stuff that I'd hate to cut the K frame when I sell car, so if their pan doesn't fit, I'll just install its stock 4 qt pan & use a larger oil filter. I also got this composite windage tray from Summit, so its much thinner than the steel Mopar tray with 2 gaskets.

There are pans out there to fit your application exactly. I have found two excellent used pans very recently (*EDIT* NONE OF THE PICKUPS SHOWN FIT THOSE 64-65 PANS. THEY WOULD BE THE DOUBLE DOG LEG ONES). Did you buy this pan already?? If so, give some dimensions to the bottom of the sump, as it might help determine what will work. I think a 5 quart pickup should work ( *EDIT* THOSE TWO ARE #187 PICKUPS), but Im not sure where to find ATM. The more common 6 quart pickup that mancini and others have is a basic Melling unit, but I think it will be too long. See pix, the two top or left are 5's, and the right or bottom ones are 6's. You'll most likely have to forgo an aftermarket windage tray for that project but if you install a lower girdle above the pan, it'll do the same job. If the pan has a windage tray built in make sure none of the rotating assembly touches.

Thanks & I've seen that before too, but its the 3rd one up from the bottom that's a 383 (b) that's got the real shallow front that clears the K frame. I'll send this drawing off to Mr Moparts to see if theirs is that thin. Also, the nylon windage tray I've got has its built in rubber gasket on both sides, so its much thinner than the factory metal one with two gaskets.

That's a good idea, but they're so rare, it may be hard to find one for sale. You never know, so I'll try it, but also have this thinner windage tray for a stroker that needs no gaskets that may help.

Thanks Lefty & I put a "for trade" ad in mechanical parts forum. I have a nice, almost new 8 quart pan that was brand new & only used 2 times on a dyno for a 440 I sold. Maybe someone wants to trade a nice pan & pick up.

Trim the K-frame. At least the lip on the passenger side front corner. You'll be happier. Personally I'd cut it further.

If the front of the pan is tight to the crossmember in the up/down plane, why not just slip a couple of 1/4" aluminum spacers between the K mount pads and the rubber mounts or between the mounts and the block brackets to lift the engine 1/4"? Basically not even measurable re drive line angle. It would also solve tie rod clearance issues. Jeff J
