How do I KILL a tree? I've heard from a few sources that you use a copper nail. :clueless: Now ol' BIGS is not a metallurgist , but.... copper is one soft metal. And to pound soft metal into a green wet wood... really?? :dunno: Plus I've been in allot of hardware stores... NEVER have I seen copper nails.... so... How do I kill a tree?

Depends on how much work you want to do. I take it you can't just cut it down. What I was told and I haven't tried it. (didn't need to). You can get a product from any plumbing store called "ROOT-X". NOT the rid-x for septic tanks. Root-x is used to kill the tree roots in your drainage pipes. You will probably have to drill several good size holes in the tree trunk, preferably at 45 degree angle. Pour in some of the chemical and then add some water. It will foam like crazy. Don't know how long it will take to kill the tree, but that is just a suggestion. I think diesel fuel will do it also in afformentioned holes.

I've had luck cutting it down then burning the stump. Just pour a little gas on her and flick a match at it until it burns out. Assuming you cut it down... I had an apple tree that even though I cut the damn thing down it kept sprouting new mini branches off the stump. I torched it as mentioned above and that was the end of that.

and like pops mentioned........some root/stump killer. Hardware store, Fleet Farm or Menards would have it around your neck of the woods. Is it some sort of Poplar, Aspen or Box Elder? Those are always tough to get to croak. Cut'em down and they try to come back twice as fast

Grab an AR-15, unload a few clips into it until the trunk looks like swiss cheese. Douse tree with a mixture of gasoline and styrofoam- homemade napalm. Light on fire and laugh maniacally. That should do the trick.

No tree huggers here...LOL... cut the tree down, close to the ground as possible, then grind out the stump with a motorized stump-grinder, is how I did 5 black oak trees on my property... a couple tried to "sprout back", just before they were ground out of existence... round up killed the sprouts... but you may have to completely dig up or ground out the roots too, depending on what type of tree your dealing with or they will just sprout/grow right back.... especially trees like Aspens have an intricate common root system... Good luck

Lets just say if I could cut the SOB down I would. But due to a "neighboring" situation I can not.................. discretion is best...........

I have heard about the copper nail trick but never tried it. Probably a wives tale. Seems lack of sunlight might be a good way to go. Chop it down and bury the stump?

But if you just listen to the blowhards that say everything man made is killing the trees, I'm surprised this question even came up. You could park your nasty dirty old car next to it and the tree should die in 15 minutes just from the proximity. As a matter of fact it should already be dead years ago! All that CO2 greenhouse gas pollution and so forth.....

The Auburn nut job used Spike 80DF, also known as tebuthiuron. It's an herbacide and he apparently applied it to the tree and surrounding soil. I guess it's readily available?

drill hole at stump, pour hydrochloric acid in the hole

Is the tree on someone else's property ?? or is it on your property ??, if it's the 1st be very careful, serious legal ramifications on trees & bordering/neighboring property lines, are very common, in many small claims courts today... Be smart, don't do something you will regret latter & be liable for... just some words of wisdom, that I probably wouldn't adhere to myself...LOL... good luck

Example; We have an easement next to our property & the up-hill neighbors property... The neighbor guy maintains, that he thinks of it as his own... It's owned by the community water board... We went to the water board who owns the easement, asked if we could cut down the tree, that was overhanging our house & carport... Told them "it's rotten & going to fall on our house & car port eventually & we wanted it gone, before another wet winter snow storm, brought it down", like so damn many other rotten trunked overgrown Black Oak trees in the area... The last big winter storm at the time, we lost a couple trees {100's in the neighborhood, 1000's in the county} & we wanted to be proactive... The up-hill neighbor is a lifer govt. Forest Service worker wannabe amateur tree guy & was pissed as hell, that we went over his head, then had the tree removed "Legally", he couldn't do anything, but he tried to... That was a couple years ago now, he's just now getting over it, he's a weird dude, always doing something in the water boards easement, planting stuff, burning big *** piles leaves every damn weekend, smoking up the whole neighborhood, then storing his boat, his firewood, burying some questionable stuff in holes all the time, wearing a respirator while doing it etc., he's a weird dude, dressed in full "forestry fire fighting garb" or some other weird outfit, full respirator & hood "you name it", while doing stuff, like roto-tilling or raking leaves & usually while I'm watching Football on Sat or Sun. {that's just un-American...LOL}... Now he's also on the community water board too, it's a volunteer position... And he disagrees with everyone on the board "all the time", they don't like the guy at all, but don't have to live next to him either, he's a weird dude, nice enough personable guy "most the time", keeps to himself for the most part & a quite neighbor the rest of the time, so I don't want to make too many waves...LOL... sorry I had to tell that story...
