@stage3 OK, I knew somebody was going to disagree. How do YOU make Max Wedge horsepower?
original stage 3 intake,plugs.
original 3705/3861 carters, and holley race hemi/wedge carbs.
66 mopar tach drive elec dist.
8 qt repo modified max wedge oil pan with swinging pick up (milodon).
oem chrome max valve covers.
71 440 block.
max wedge port TF 270's.
hedman 62-65 426 wedge headers.
the modern version.

Nick had mentioned full throttle vacuum was too low and carbs were too big, partner mentioned 500s might run better.
he said they only had 4 inches of vacuum. those carbs needed more work, syncing them for 1. etc.
 
4 inches at WOT? If I see 2 inches at full throttle I go bigger. If he meant at idle then yeah. The combo is off. I’ve never used a max intake. I did use an Offy flat Chevy one. That’s a big plenum to fill.the Offy was a single 4 design. Much less complex tuning Than a dual quad long runner. He‘s running it on 94 so my guess is he needs more compression for the cam. But then like I said I have zero experience on a Maxie.
 
It's simple to synch the carbs. Ma even provided an indexing hole to set initial carb throttle positioning. All he needed to do was ask and a multitude of MW folks would have been forthcoming. I surely would have been along with other folks.
