Tips for engine/trans/k member removal?

Anyone have tips for dropping the engine/trans/k member/suspension assembly out the bottom of a b body?

This will be my first time doing this.

I plan to use an engine hoist to raise up the nose of the car and then drag the unit out.

I can't yet visualize how I support the unit once I release it from the car and raise up the nose.
 
Best way to do it by far!

I use furniture dollies from China freight to build up a rolling "fixture" and roll the whole deal right out from under the body.

Basically, just make sure you unhook everything and lift.

Also, I seperate the spindle from the a arms and leave the a arms on the body.

So support the engine weight with the hoist, remove the connections to the body, remove the tires, lower the unit down to the dollies?
 
I use a 2 post lift, but if I was using a cherry picker I would get the k frame slightly resting on the fixture with caster wheels, unhook everything and then lift the body up with the cherry picker. Then roll the engine/trans/k frame out.
 
We're working on my sisters town and country going to pull the motor trans and k frame right out, we have it on a scissor jack/lift disconnect everything and lift the whole body roll the assemble out from under

What about my stick shift? I'm assuming I need to pull the shifter first?
 
With my age, physical cabilities, and a desire to keep at my love of Old Mopars, I decided to invest some of my retirement funds in tools that would extend my run. I found a used lift, and the cart came from Year One when they had a super deal with free shipping. Haven't seen the same deal again. I can basically remove, and install the drive lines by myself now, but like to have some extra eyes around when it's going into a clean, fresh painted resto...

I'm seeing some pics with the tortion bars connected the to the k member outside of the vehicle.

Can I slide the bars out of the uni-body when I unbolt the k member? Visa versa for reinstalling? Or should I pull hem prior and install separately?
 
I dropped mine out (first time also) by building this little roll cart. I made the transmission rubber mount drop into the rear tube so I knew it couldn't go anywhere. K member, suspension, engine, transmission are just resting on the front tubes. When I roll it around I drop a few large bolts in the front holes in K member. I just dropped it out the bottom by raising the car on a 2 post lift. Really the hardest part was driving the torsion bars out, but now I have the clamps they sell. By making the tubes tall, my thought was if I had to sell the roller, the next guy could trim the tubes lower if not using a lift. Just trying to cover my bases. Was pretty simple to weld up. Cost me around $60 for steel and $50 for the wheels. Maybe 2 hours with a welder, plasma cutter and tape measure.

I do it without a lift. Put it on jackstands, then disconnect everything but the K frame bolts, removing the T bars after unloading them, and leaving a couple bolts (without nuts) in the trans crosmember. I use a jack that is low profile, and raise it through a HD furniture dolly to jack it up off the jackstands. Pull the stands, and lower the car onto the dolly. Unbolt the K frame and pull the bolts from the trans crossmember from the sides (not under the car). Then I slip the 4x4 in place and lift the body off it.
 
I went with the standard engine hoist method. Worked well, except the legs of my hoist were long, 2 ton, and got in the way.
