I'm looking at wheels for a 67 belvedere 2 sedan. Is 235 65 r17 too big for the car? I recall reading 28in is the biggest you want to go. That tire would be 29in. I'm not super concerned about having to work with getting it on and off in the rear, more concerned if I'll have rubbing issues front or rear.
Thanks everyone!

It’s not the tire size, it’s the back spacing of the rim, per se. I would check that and measure how much room till ya hit the lip.

Well backspacing as well but I read that should be around 4.25-4.75 on a 7in wheel. So just wanted to make sure all my dimensions are working.

that's a tall tire for the front, 29" on a 6.5"-8.5" wide wheel
better have the back spacing spot on

too tall for the front IMHO,
you can make it work, but why ? go a bit smaller
a 225 is a 1/2 shorter (28.5") on an 8-1/2" wide wheel
a 215/65-17 is 28"s on an 8.5" wide wheel, that plenty tall,
The narrower wheel (like a 7") the taller the tire will be, fractionally
& if you have too much back spacing,
it will rub on inside front or the backside of the tire at full lock

You had better do your due-diligence on the wheel fitment...

what size are you putting on the rear ?

I'd suggest to use a taller rear tire
than the front, so it doesn't look weird

(29" tire is a lot, if you don't have the correct back spacing, for the inner wheel-tubes,
may even rub on the front of the rear wheel opening on a 67,
IIRC they have less room then the 68-70's have
they all have a big hump, in the outer part on the inside side of the rear wells,
it will rub on, these cars have a big wheel wells esp. rears,
a 13" (at the girth) wide tires can fit well, on a 68-70
but there's obstacles, I'm not 100% sure on the 67s, they have less wheel or tires clearances
)

I don't necessarily want that size wheel and tire combo, just found a good deal on some wheels and tires.

Thanks for the info. I'll just pass on that set.
